This particular role sits with Infrastructure Project Solutions (IPS), a Sequana Group Company.

WHAT YOU DO
The Design Manager, working closely with Project Managers across the business, is responsible for coordinating the delivery of engineering design documentation and drawings for the Queensland business, with a primary focus on water and sewer network infrastructure, including pipelines, pump stations, reservoirs and other complex water infrastructure assets. The Design Manager will ensure designs are delivered in accordance with the contractual scope, relevant specifications and Australian Standards, agreed project programme and budget, while protecting the interests and reputation of the client and Sequana Group.
Key Responsibilities

Co-ordinate and manage delivery of the design in accordance with Sequana Group design and delivery procedures.
- Manage the planning of design activities for all disciplines required to achieve the design deliverables to achieve the design submissions and milestones within the contract program.
- Report the progress of design activities to the Project Manager / General Manager on a weekly basis.
- Manage and take accountability for the design budget throughout the life of the project, ensuring that the budget spend is controlled within the design budget, and provide a monthly ‘forecast for completion’ (FFC) for the design element of the project.
- Capture any design changes required throughout the life of the project via the design change request (DCR) system. Ensure that all DCR’s are approved by the Project Manager / Client prior to any change/ rework is undertaken, ensuring that the cause of the change is captured correctly within the DCR.
- Take ownership of the design activities within the P6 contract program, ensuring that monthly updates are undertaken, liaising with the Project Manager and scheduler to ensure that the program is maintained in line with progress.
- Provide technical support and supervision during all project phases to ensure designs meet operational requirements and relevant engineering standards.
- Generate a deviation from standard (DFS) for every design specification non-compliance, incorporating sufficient relevant details within the DFS to provide stakeholders with a full understanding of why the deviation is being requested.
- Develop design estimates, programs, and all required design-related deliverables for design tenders.
- Ensure all design drawings/ documents are reviewed by relevant engineers to the project and that they are adequately documented for auditing purposes.
- Ensure a safety in design process is followed by undertaking relevant design reviews, CHAIR, HAZOP, CHAZOP and FMECA processes where required.
WHO YOU ARE

Bachelor’s degree qualification in engineering or similar relevant qualification.
- CPEng & RPEQ preferred.
- General construction induction (White Card).
- At least 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
- Qualification/experience in Project Management is desirable.
- Design management experience within the infrastructure/ utilities sectors.
- Experience in managing multi-disciplinary design teams to develop design deliverables.
- Have a proven track record of delivering design projects within budget and time milestones.
- Experience in running project design meetings and design reviews with stakeholders.
- Design project planning experience with a good understanding of mechanical, structural & civil design disciplines.
- Strong computer literacy and demonstrated competence in a variety of computer software packages, including MS Project.
- Demonstrate strong leadership and have good verbal and written communication skills.
- Possessing a positive and proactive approach toward teamwork.
