ActivateUTS brings the UTS experience to life beyond the classroom. We are a not-for-profit of around 60 permanent staff and 100+ casuals, spanning hospitality, fitness, events, retail and student engagement, all in one organisation at the heart of the UTS campus. Our commercial venues include Aerial Function Centre, The Underground, The Loft on Broadway, The Terrace, ActivateFit.Gym and UTS Store, which receives more than 114,000 visits a year. We also run 190+ student clubs and societies with 39,000+ memberships, support 455 elite athletes across 44 sports, and delivered over 5,800 events last year. Revenue generated by our commercial venues is fully reinvested into student programs and experiences.
Join Aerial Function Centre as a Function Supervisor and take a hands-on role in the successful execution of events. You will supervise Function Staff during shifts, coordinate with kitchen, AV and bar teams, and provide real-time support and clear direction to help deliver a seamless guest and client experience.
The role is primarily based at Aerial Function Centre and may provide operational support across other ActivateUTS hospitality venues where required. Where duties fall outside the Function Supervisor role, the relevant position description, supervision arrangements and venue-specific requirements will apply.
- Lead and supervise Function Staff and Team Leaders during events to deliver timely and professional service.
- Conduct pre-shift briefings covering event details, timelines and team responsibilities.
- Manage floor operations and act as the main contact point for internal teams and clients where appropriate.
- Monitor service quality and the guest experience, taking proactive steps to address issues.
- Coordinate effectively with kitchen, AV and bar teams throughout events.
- Oversee venue setup and pack-down in line with event orders and service standards.
- Ensure opening and closing procedures are completed.
- Maintain venue cleanliness and readiness and complete inventory checks.
- Use venue setup procedures and operational checklists to support consistent event delivery.
- Provide clear direction and real-time support to Function Staff and Team Leaders during shifts.
- Support the onboarding and training of new Function Staff and emerging leaders.
- Provide feedback and shift summaries following events.
- Maintain compliance with food safety, RSA and WHS policies.
- Escalate client concerns, service issues, incidents, hazards and operational risks promptly in accordance with ActivateUTS procedures.
- Complete event reports, incident reports and operational documentation as required following events.
You are an experienced hospitality or events professional who is confident leading teams during busy event operations. You provide clear direction, respond calmly and practically to operational issues, and maintain strong attention to detail while delivering outstanding client service.
You bring excellent communication, time management and decision-making capabilities, together with experience managing food and beverage service in high-volume or premium environments.
- Proven experience in hospitality or events in a supervisory or senior floor role.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, support and give clear direction to a diverse team during busy event operations.
