About the role
Due to continued growth in our project pipeline, we are seeking an experienced, full-time Passive Fire Inspector to join our Sydney-based team. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will independently inspect and verify passive fire protection installations across active construction sites to ensure compliance with the National Construction Code and relevant Australian Standards, supporting project handover and certification for our builder clients.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct on-site inspections of passive fire protection installations — including fire and smoke dampers, fire stopping and sealing, vermiculite fire spray, and structural fire protection — across construction sites throughout Sydney and Greater NSW
- Verify installation quality and compliance with project requirements, the National Construction Code (NCC), and relevant Australian Standards (including AS 1530.4 and AS 4072.1)
- Identify defects, incomplete works, and non-conforming installations, and monitor rectification works through to completion
- Prepare inspection reports, photographic records, and quality assurance documentation to support project tracking, handover, and certification
- Review installed works against approved drawings and project specifications
- Liaise with site teams, contractors, building certifiers, and other project stakeholders regarding inspection findings and rectification requirements
- Maintain accurate inspection records to support quality assurance outcomes and timely project delivery
Skills and experience
- Demonstrated experience in passive fire protection, building/construction inspection, or a related trade or technical background
- Working knowledge of the NCC and Australian Standards applicable to passive fire protection
- Relevant tertiary qualification in construction management, building surveying, engineering, or a related field (desirable but not essential)
- Strong attention to detail and report-writing skills
- Current driver's licence and own reliable transport, with the ability to travel between sites across Sydney
- Construction industry White Card and ability to pass site-specific inductions
- Sound communication skills for liaising with site teams, contractors, and certifiers
