Safety, Training & Compliance Manager
Build the framework that makes Morrows safer, stronger and better
Morrows Logistics is a growing Australian logistics business specialising in dangerous goods transport and 3PL services. We operate in a fast-moving industry where safety, compliance, customer service and operational performance all matter. As we continue to grow, we are looking for someone who wants to help us build something better.
This is not a traditional box-ticking compliance role. Safety, dangerous goods and compliance are the foundation of the position, but we are looking for a hands-on person who can turn those requirements into practical systems, training and better day-to-day performance.
The opportunity
This is a newly shaped role within Morrows with genuine scope to build and improve the function. Reporting directly to the General Manager and working closely with the leadership team, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the framework that supports our people to be Safe, Trained, Capable, Compliant and Accountable.
The primary focus of the role is safety, dangerous goods and compliance. A significant part of the opportunity is to build a structured training and capability framework around that foundation, with broader people and performance responsibilities developing as the function matures.
What you will be responsible for
Safety, DG & Compliance – your primary focus
- Own and continuously improve Morrows’ safety and compliance framework.
- Maintain and develop WHS policies, procedures, SOPs, registers and systems.
- Support dangerous goods compliance across transport and warehouse operations.
- Assist with Chain of Responsibility compliance and related operational requirements.
- Conduct workplace inspections, audits and compliance reviews.
- Investigate incidents, identify root causes and develop practical corrective actions.
- Monitor corrective actions through to completion.
- Ensure regulatory and customer requirements are understood and embedded into our operations.
- Work with managers to ensure compliance is practical, understood and consistently applied.
Training & capability – building something better
- Develop and maintain a structured Morrows training program.
- Coordinate inductions, refresher training and competency assessments.
- Identify training gaps and develop practical training solutions.
- Deliver training where appropriate.
- Ensure training is practical, engaging and relevant to the work people actually do.
- Develop training following incidents, process failures, customer feedback and identified risks.
- Build training pathways for drivers, warehouse team members, operations and leadership.
People & performance – a supporting capability
- Work alongside managers to help develop a culture where people understand what is expected of them and have the capability to meet those expectations.
- Support onboarding, probation and position-specific competency processes.
- Help managers address recurring performance or capability issues.
- Support investigations and difficult conversations where appropriate.
- Work with team members to understand barriers to performing their roles effectively.
You will not be expected to be an HR specialist. We are looking for someone with the judgement and people skills to support managers and team members effectively, while recognising when specialist HR or legal advice is required.
The person we are looking for
You are confident, approachable and credible. People are comfortable talking to you, but you are also prepared to challenge people when the situation requires it. You can hold a room, hold a line and build trust without relying on authority.
You are a doer. You see something that needs fixing and do not wait for someone else to fix it. You are comfortable walking into a warehouse, talking to a driver, understanding what is happening in practice, working with a manager and then putting the right policy, procedure or training in place.
You understand that the needs of the business come first, but you also understand that a business cannot perform at its best without a capable, trained, safe and engaged team.
Essential
- Strong practical experience in WHS, safety or compliance.
- Sound understanding of dangerous goods and DG transport.
- Experience in transport, logistics, warehousing, 3PL or another operational environment.
- Strong written communication skills and the ability to develop clear policies, procedures and SOPs.
- Experience with incident investigation, audits, risk assessment or corrective actions.
- Demonstrated ability to influence operational teams.
Highly regarded
- Formal qualifications in WHS, training, dangerous goods or a related discipline.
- Experience developing and delivering workplace training.
- Experience with Chain of Responsibility.
- Experience supporting HR, performance or employee relations processes.
- Experience building or improving a safety, compliance or training framework.
What success looks like
Six months into the role, we want to see a noticeable difference.
- Our people understand better what is expected of them.
- Training is structured rather than reactive.
- Policies and procedures are clear, practical and actually used.
- Compliance challenges are identified before they become incidents.
- Managers are better equipped to manage the capability of their teams.
- Our drivers and warehouse team members understand why our standards exist.
- When something goes wrong, we do not simply complete a form and move on; we understand what happened and improve the business.
An opportunity to build
This role is not about maintaining an existing system. It is an opportunity to build the foundations of a progressive safety, training and compliance function and, over time, help develop the Training Team that supports our people across the business.
Our values are simple:
Move Together.
Own the Outcome.
Raise the Bar.
This role will have a significant influence on all three.
If you want to build, improve, influence and make a genuine difference to a growing Australian logistics business, we would like to hear from you.
Morrows Logistics – Forever Forward.
