Assistant People & Culture Manager - Pre-Opening Luxury Hotel

The EQ Hotel is seeking an experienced and hands-on Assistant People & Culture Manager to join our pre-opening team and help build the culture, systems and team behind Perth’s newest luxury hotel.
This is an exciting opportunity for a hospitality HR professional who understands the pace, complexity and people focus of hotel operations. You will work closely with the People & Culture Director to support the full employee lifecycle, establish strong foundations before opening, and provide trusted day-to-day support to our leaders and team members.
About the Role
Reporting to the People & Culture Director, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of a high-performing, compliant and genuinely people-focused workplace.
During pre-opening, you will assist with high-volume recruitment, onboarding, HR administration, policy implementation, training coordination and the setup of people systems. Once the hotel is operational, you will provide practical HR support across all departments including Front Office, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Culinary, Engineering, Finance and Sales.
This is a varied, operational role suited to someone who enjoys being visible in the hotel, building strong relationships and finding practical solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Support end-to-end recruitment, including advertising, screening, interviews, reference checks, offers and onboarding.
- Coordinate pre-employment checks, employment contracts, personnel files, induction and compliance documentation.
- Provide first-level advice and support to managers and team members on HR policies, performance, conduct, leave and workplace matters.
- Assist with employee relations matters, investigations, performance management and disciplinary processes.
- Support the delivery of training, engagement initiatives, recognition programs and wellbeing activities.
- Maintain accurate employee records and ensure compliance with employment legislation, Modern Awards, hotel policies and procedures.
- Assist with workforce reporting, HR metrics, payroll-related documentation and employee data management.
- Work closely with operational leaders to ensure effective communication, onboarding and retention of team members.
- Help create a positive, inclusive and service-led workplace culture from pre-opening onwards
Who You Are
You are a confident and approachable People & Culture professional with strong experience working in WA's hotels. You understand hotel operations, the hospitality awards, shift-based workforces and the importance of responsive support to operational leaders.
You will bring:
- Previous experience as an Assistant P&C Manager, HR Advisor, P&C Coordinator or similar role within a hotel environment.
- Strong, recent experience in Perth hotel operations is essential.
- Sound knowledge of Australian employment legislation, Fair Work requirements and relevant hospitality awards.
- Experience supporting recruitment, onboarding, employee relations and performance management.
- Strong administration, organisation and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build trust with people at all levels.
- Experience using HRIS and payroll systems; Tanda experience will be highly regarded.
- Flexibility to support a seven-day hotel operation when required.
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Human Resources, People & Culture, Business, or a related discipline is highly regarded.
- Current knowledge of Australian employment legislation, Fair Work requirements and hospitality Modern Awards is essential.
