We are seeking a skilled and reliable Automotive Spray Painter to join our crash repair team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing vehicles and panels for painting, colour matching, applying primers, basecoats and clearcoats, and completing high-quality refinishing work to manufacturer and company standards.
This role requires strong attention to detail, a commitment to quality and safety, and the ability to work efficiently within a busy accident repair workshop.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare damaged vehicles and panels for painting, including sanding, masking and surface preparation.
- Carry out primer, sealer, basecoat and clearcoat applications.
- Mix and match paint colours accurately using manufacturer specifications and colour-matching systems.
- Perform blending and refinishing work to achieve a seamless finish.
- Inspect completed work to ensure a high-quality finish and correct any defects.
- Operate and maintain spray guns, paint mixing equipment, sanding equipment and other workshop tools.
- Maintain a clean and organised spray booth and work area.
- Follow manufacturer repair procedures and workplace quality standards.
- Identify and report any issues with panels or repairs before painting.
- Work closely with panel beaters, estimators and other workshop staff to meet repair schedules.
- Follow all workplace health and safety, environmental and chemical handling requirements.
- Minimise paint and material wastage wherever possible.
- Complete jobs efficiently while maintaining a high standard of workmanship.
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience as an Automotive Spray Painter, preferably in a crash repair/body shop environment.
- Strong knowledge of automotive paint systems and refinishing techniques.
- Experience with colour matching and paint blending.
- Ability to prepare surfaces to a high standard.
- Good understanding of primers, basecoats, clearcoats and paint mixing.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good time management and ability to meet repair deadlines.
- Commitment to workplace health and safety.
- Relevant trade qualification or equivalent industry experience is preferred.
Pay: $35.00 – $38.00 per hour
Expected hours: 38.0 per week
