About the role
The Senior Engineer / Technical Officer - Road Design is responsible for designing, documenting and delivering road infrastructure projects across all stages, from concept development through to detailed design and construction support. Using road design standards, Safe System principles and digital design tools such as MicroStation and OpenRoads, the role develops road layouts, intersections, drainage, safety infrastructure, signage and associated project documentation.
Working under limited supervision, the role delivers quality design outcomes within agreed timeframes and budgets while providing technical advice and project support. The position also builds strong stakeholder relationships, prepares reports and correspondence, and contributes to capability development, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement within the Road Design team.

- Delivers road design projects effectively, planning and coordinating work, monitoring progress and ensuring outcomes are achieved within agreed scope, timeframes and budgets.
- Applies strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret standards, assess design challenges and develop practical, site-specific solutions.
- Collaborates effectively with colleagues and stakeholders, sharing knowledge, supporting others and contributing to a positive team environment.
- Adapts to changing priorities and works comfortably across multidisciplinary teams to achieve project objectives.
- Brings strong technical road design expertise, including geometric and drainage design, roadside safety infrastructure, and the use of CADD tools such as MicroStation, OpenRoads and related design platforms.

Qualifications and experience
You’ll bring:
- A tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, with 3-5 years of recent experience in the design and documentation of road design projects (mandatory).
- Strong technical knowledge of road design, roadside infrastructure and drainage, with proven ability to apply Austroads, DTP and other relevant design standards and guidelines across rural and urban environments (mandatory).
- Proficiency in Bentley design software, including MicroStation Connect, OpenRoads Designer and ProjectWise, together with a Victorian Driver’s Licence, White Card and the ability to travel within Victoria for site inspections (mandatory).
