About the role
We are seeking an experienced Head Chef to join Wingboy in Newtown NSW 2042. This is a full-time position that offers a unique opportunity to lead our kitchen operations. As Head Chef, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of food preparation, assisting with menu development, and kitchen management, whilst maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and hygiene. This role is central to delivering an exceptional dining experience and upholding Wingboy's reputation.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with planning and developing menus
- Oversee all kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, plating, and presentation
- Manage kitchen staff, including recruitment, training, scheduling, and performance management
- Maintain strict adherence to food safety regulations, hygiene standards, and health compliance requirements
- Control food costs through effective inventory management, portion control, and supplier relationships
- Ensure consistent quality and taste across all dishes served to guests
- Lead by example, fostering a positive and collaborative kitchen culture
- Liaise with front-of-house staff to ensure seamless service and guest satisfaction
- Monitor food trends and innovate recipes to keep the menu fresh and competitive
- Maintain kitchen equipment and facilities in optimal working condition
What we're looking for
- Minimum 3+ years of professional kitchen experience, with at least 1 year in a head chef or senior chef position
- Formal culinary qualifications or equivalent demonstrated experience in professional food preparation
- Strong knowledge of food safety, hygiene standards, and health regulations
- Excellent leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff
- Advanced culinary skills with proficiency in a variety of cooking techniques and cuisines
- Proven ability to manage kitchen operations effectively, including budgeting and cost control
- Exceptional organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure during service
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with all departments
- Creative mindset with a passion for menu development and culinary innovation
- Current food handling certificate
