About the Role
Austin Truck Bodies is seeking an experienced and motivated Engineering Manager to lead our engineering function and support the continued growth of our truck body manufacturing operations. This is a senior leadership role responsible for managing engineering activities, driving innovation, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring the successful delivery of projects from concept through to production.
The successful candidate will work closely with production, operations, sales, and management teams to develop engineering solutions that meet customer requirements while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, compliance, and cost-effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve engineering strategies, systems, policies, and operational plans to support business objectives.
- Lead and manage the engineering team, providing technical guidance, mentoring, performance management, and professional development opportunities.
- Review, interpret, and approve engineering drawings, technical specifications, designs, and project documentation.
- Provide expert advice on engineering methodologies, manufacturing processes, fabrication techniques, and design improvements.
- Oversee the planning, scheduling, budgeting, and execution of engineering projects to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
- Coordinate engineering resources to meet production schedules and customer deadlines.
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with relevant Australian Standards, workplace health and safety requirements, regulatory obligations, and industry best practices.
- Monitor project performance, identify risks, and implement corrective actions to achieve quality, safety, and productivity targets.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing, design, and engineering operations to optimise efficiency and reduce costs.
- Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to improve equipment reliability, minimise downtime, and maximise operational performance.
- Lead product development initiatives, including custom vehicle body designs, modifications, and engineering solutions tailored to customer requirements.
- Work closely with sales and business development teams to provide technical support during quoting, tendering, and customer consultation processes.
- Evaluate new materials, technologies, and manufacturing techniques to enhance product performance and competitiveness.
- Manage engineering budgets and capital expenditure projects, ensuring effective allocation of resources.
- Conduct design reviews, engineering calculations, feasibility studies, and technical assessments.
- Oversee documentation control processes and ensure accurate maintenance of engineering records.
- Support research and development activities aimed at improving product innovation, safety, durability, and manufacturing efficiency.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement throughout the engineering department.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with customers, suppliers, contractors, consultants, and regulatory authorities.
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience in engineering management within manufacturing, heavy vehicle, transport equipment, fabrication, or related industries.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Demonstrated experience managing engineering projects, budgets, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent knowledge of engineering principles, fabrication processes, and manufacturing operations.
- Strong understanding of Australian Standards, compliance requirements, and workplace safety regulations.
- Exceptional problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience with CAD systems and engineering design processes will be highly regarded.

Pay: $150,000.00 – $165,000.00 per year
