The Role
Haileybury is seeking an enthusiastic and highly skilled Media Learning Specialist to join the Senior Visual Arts Department in a permanent full-time position. Working across our four Melbourne campuses and our online campus, this hands-on role supports students and staff in bringing creative ideas to life through photography, film, sound, digital media and emerging technologies.
More than a technical support role, this position is embedded within teaching and learning. You will work closely with students and teachers to build confidence and capability with cameras, lighting, sound recording, editing software, print production and digital fabrication technologies. Whether helping a student use a camera for the first time, supporting the production of a short film or documentary, assisting with animation or photographic projects, or preparing equipment and resources for exhibitions and events, you will play an integral role in fostering creativity and artistic excellence across the department.
The role also contributes to the wider life of Visual Arts through the curation and documentation of exhibitions, artist residencies and events, as well as the creation of content for the department's large-format displays and other showcase opportunities.
Skills & Experience
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Demonstrated experience in photography, film, sound and multimedia production, with strong technical knowledge of cameras, lighting and audio equipment.
- Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Cloud applications, including Premiere Pro, Photoshop, After Effects, InDesign and Illustrator.
- The ability to explain technical processes clearly and work patiently and positively with young people of varying skill levels.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the capacity to build strong relationships with students, teachers and colleagues.
- Outstanding organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and prepare for time-sensitive events.
- Experience maintaining and managing creative technologies and equipment, with knowledge of 3D printing, laser cutting and related fabrication technologies viewed favourably.
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach and a genuine passion for supporting creativity, experimentation and learning.
- Innovation and a passion for learning new technologies and workflows.
In addition to your technical expertise, you will be approachable, resourceful and calm under pressure, with a collaborative spirit and a desire to help students realise ambitious creative outcomes across Media, Art Making and Exhibiting and Visual Communication Design. Travel across campuses is required and candidates must have their own vehicle.
Why work for us:
- Regular professional development sessions, mentoring, and leadership programs.
- Opportunities to work across Haileybury's Melbourne campuses, Haileybury Rendall School in Darwin, and Haileybury Senior School in Tianjin, China.
- Exceptional on-site facilities, cutting-edge technology, and staff wellbeing support initiatives.
- A vibrant staff community with regular social events and wellbeing programs.
- A strong commitment to diversity, equity, and the creation of a culturally safe and inclusive workplace.
