Peninsula Private Hospital is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Assistant Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM) – Anaesthetics, Recovery and Day Surgery Unit to join our Perioperative Services leadership team.
Reporting directly to the Perioperative Services Manager (POSM), you will provide operational and clinical leadership across Anaesthetics, Recovery and the Day Surgery Unit. You will work collaboratively with nursing staff, Visiting Medical Officers and multidisciplinary teams to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care while supporting workforce development, service efficiency and clinical excellence.
This leadership position combines hands-on clinical expertise with operational management responsibilities, supporting the day-to-day coordination of patient care, staffing resources, quality improvement initiatives and professional development activities.

Key Responsibilities

Provide day-to-day clinical and operational leadership across Anaesthetics, Recovery and Day Surgery services.

Coordinate staffing resources and patient flow to support efficient departmental operations.

Supervise, mentor and support nursing staff to deliver high-quality patient care.

Promote compliance with NSQHS Standards, accreditation requirements and organisational policies.

Support workforce management activities including performance management, recruitment and onboarding.

Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, incident reviews and risk management activities.

Facilitate staff education, competency assessment and professional development.
-
Monitor clinical practice standards and promote evidence-based practice.

Support succession planning and development of emerging nurse leaders.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure positive patient and service outcomes.

Assist the Perioperative Services Manager in achieving departmental objectives and operational targets.

Foster a positive workplace culture focused on teamwork, engagement and continuous improvement.
Essential Criteria
-
Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse.

Minimum 5 years relevant perioperative nursing experience.

Significant experience within Anaesthetics and/or Recovery nursing.

Previous leadership experience at Team Leader, Clinical Nurse or equivalent level.

Demonstrated ability to coordinate clinical resources and workflow within a perioperative environment.

Strong understanding of NSQHS Standards and accreditation requirements.

Sound clinical decision-making and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
-
Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement and patient safety.

Ability to lead, motivate and develop staff.

Competency in the use of healthcare information systems.

Commitment to ongoing professional development.
Desirable Criteria
-
Postgraduate qualifications in Perioperative Nursing or Management.
-
Previous experience in Day Surgery leadership.
-
Experience managing workforce planning and performance processes.
-
Current ALS & PALS certification.

If you are successful in the role, you will receive a salary based on your years of relevant registered nursing experience against the current Healthscope and QLD Nurse and Midwives' -Enterprise Agreement 2022, a salary ranging from $ 65.54 to $70.27 per hour.
