About the Role
We are currently seeking an experienced, passionate, and motivated Sous Chef to join our team at The Waves Sports Club.
Working closely with the Head Chef, you will play a key role in leading the kitchen team, maintaining high food quality standards, and ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of our busy kitchen. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about hospitality, enjoys mentoring others, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
As Sous Chef, you will:
- Assist the Head Chef with the daily operation of the kitchen.
- Lead, motivate, and inspire the kitchen team to consistently deliver high-quality meals.
- Ensure all food is prepared and presented to the highest standards.
- Assist with ordering, receiving, and managing stock and inventory.
- Monitor food costs and contribute to effective cost control.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety legislation, and hygiene standards.
- Assist with menu planning and the development of new menu items.
- Train, mentor, and support apprentice and junior kitchen staff.
- Maintain excellent communication and work collaboratively with all departments.
- Foster a positive, supportive, and team-focused kitchen culture.
- Be available to work a flexible roster, including days, nights, weekends, and public holidays.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Previous experience as a Sous Chef or in a similar leadership position.
- Strong culinary knowledge with a genuine passion for quality food.
- Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
- The ability to perform well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- A positive attitude with a strong work ethic and commitment to teamwork.
- Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery (or higher).
- A current Food Safety Supervisor Certificate.
- Flexibility to work across a seven-day rotating roster.
