Southern Stainless is a Gold Coast-based stainless steel fabrication and manufacturing company servicing the marine, architectural and commercial sectors. We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support our engineering documentation, manufacturing systems, product data management and project delivery functions.This position is well suited to a detail-oriented engineer who enjoys maintaining accurate records, managing technical documentation and supporting manufacturing operations. While some design and product development work is involved, a significant component of this role focuses on engineering documentation, ERP maintenance and quality system support.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, update and maintain SolidWorks models and engineering drawings.
- Manage drawing revisions and engineering change documentation.
- Maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), routing information and manufacturing records within the company ERP system.
- Review and update existing product documentation to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Develop and maintain manufacturing work instructions and technical procedures.
- Ensure engineering records are stored and controlled in accordance with company document control requirements.
- Assist with maintaining drawing registers, document repositories and product databases.
- Prepare technical documentation for production, purchasing and quality assurance activities.
- Support ISO 9001 quality management documentation and internal audit requirements.
- Assist with document reviews, corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide engineering support to production staff and assist with resolving manufacturing issues.
- Assist with estimating, project planning and project administration activities.
- Liaise with customers and suppliers regarding technical information and documentation requirements.
- Support product development and design updates where required.
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
- Strong document management and organisational skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work within established systems, procedures and quality requirements.
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and Word.
- Ability to manage multiple documentation and administration tasks simultaneously.
Desirable
- Experience working within manufacturing or fabrication environments.
- Experience with ERP or MRP systems.
- Experience with ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
- Experience managing engineering documentation and revision control systems.
- Knowledge of stainless steel fabrication or sheet metal manufacturing processes.
About the Role
This is primarily an office-based position supporting the day-to-day engineering and manufacturing functions of the business. A large portion of the role involves managing engineering documentation, maintaining ERP data, updating drawings, supporting quality systems and ensuring manufacturing information remains accurate and current. The role requires a methodical and detail-focused approach and would suit someone who enjoys structured engineering and documentation work within a manufacturing environment.
Pay: $79,800.00 – $80,500.00 per year
