About the Role
The Director, Integrated Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drug Services (IMHAOD) is a key executive leadership role within Mid North Coast Local Health District (MNCLHD) and is responsible for providing strategic direction, clinical and corporate governance and operational leadership across a diverse portfolio of mental health, alcohol and other drug services.
Reporting to the District Director Clinical Service Delivery, the Director leads the development, implementation and continuous improvement of integrated, recovery-oriented services that deliver safe, high quality, efficient and person-centred care across hospital, community and primary care settings. The role oversees a workforce through approximately 14 direct reports and manages an annual budget of approximately $74 million, ensuring financial sustainability, service performance and achievement of key strategic and operational objectives.
As the principal advisor on mental health and alcohol and other drug services, the Director provides expert strategic and performance advice to the Chief Executive, Executive Team and District leadership, contributing to organisation wide planning, health reform, service redesign and system integration initiatives. The role drives the implementation of the MNCLHD IMHAOD Strategic Plan 2025–2029, fostering innovative models of care, strengthening partnerships across the health and community sectors, and promoting research, workforce development and continuous quality improvement.
The Director is accountable for achieving key performance indicators, meeting service agreement obligations, ensuring compliance with legislative, regulatory and accreditation requirements and leading complex change initiatives that enhance patient outcomes and experience. Through strong leadership and engagement, the role shapes a positive workforce culture aligned with NSW Health values, supports community participation in service design and champions excellence in clinical quality, patient safety and innovation across the IMHAOD portfolio.
The position offers flexibility with location negotiable across Mid North Coast Local Health District (MNCLHD) sites, supporting a strong presence across the district’s geographically diverse services and communities. The successful candidate will hold a current unrestricted driver's licence and demonstrate the capacity and willingness to travel regularly throughout the district as required to support service delivery, stakeholder engagement, workforce leadership, and strategic organisational priorities.
About You
You are a senior healthcare leader with extensive experience in clinical and operational management across complex health service environments supported by tertiary qualifications in a health-related discipline and advanced leadership and management expertise. You will have successfully led large scale service portfolios, workforce transformation initiatives and strategic health reforms that improve service integration, quality, safety and patient outcomes.
Your experience spans the delivery of integrated mental health, alcohol and other drug services, with a strong focus on clinical governance, continuous quality improvement, risk management and organisational performance. You have a proven track record of leading multidisciplinary teams through complex change, ensuring services remain responsive to community needs while meeting strategic, financial, and operational objectives. You are recognised for your ability to navigate complex and sensitive issues, providing sound strategic advice and exercising balanced judgement in high pressure environments.
Your strengths include strategic planning, service redesign, workforce development, stakeholder engagement and the development and implementation of innovative models of care that deliver sustainable improvements in patient experience and health outcomes. An accomplished communicator and collaborator, you have successfully built strong partnerships across government, healthcare, community, academic and non-government sectors. You can bring highly developed negotiation, analytical, and decision-making skills, enabling you to align diverse stakeholder interests and achieve shared organisational goals.
As a values driven leader, you foster high-performing teams through empowerment, accountability and a commitment to excellence. You will have extensive experience leading quality and safety initiatives, business case development, operational planning, and performance management, ensuring services consistently meet key performance indicators, accreditation standards, and strategic priorities.
