Cyber Security Officer
Grade: 7/8
Salary range: $116,981-129,492 + superannuation and leave loading
Duration: permanent full-time role, ongoing
Location: Hybrid with an in-office requirement 2 days a week in Sydney, Parramatta, Gosford or Bathurst. This may be subject to change in line with DCS workplace policies
Use your penetration testing skills to help protect critical communications infrastructure that supports emergency services across NSW.
This role provides an opportunity to move beyond traditional penetration testing and contribute to long-term cyber security research, vulnerability assessment and security assurance activities across Operational Technology (OT) environments and the Public Safety Network (PSN).
About the team
This role sits within the Operational Technology Cyber Security team in NSW Telco Authority.
The team is focused on securing Operational Technology environments, particularly Public Safety Network (PSN) radio infrastructure, through penetration testing, vulnerability assessment and security research into radio frequency (RF) and land mobile radio (LMR) systems. Working alongside operational, engineering and cyber security specialists, the team helps strengthen the resilience of critical communications infrastructure and supports the ongoing protection of essential public safety services.
Your responsibilities will include

Conducting penetration testing and adversarial assessments of Operational Technology environments and critical infrastructure systems

Identifying vulnerabilities, assess risks and provide practical remediation recommendations

Performing cyber security analysis and research activities relating to RF, LMR and telecommunications technologies

Producing technical reports, research papers and advisory materials for technical and non-technical stakeholders

Providing cyber security input into engineering, design and deployment activities across the Public Safety Network

Supporting vulnerability research, tooling development and cyber security improvement initiatives
Collaborating with internal teams, industry partners and stakeholders to promote cyber security best practice

To be successful in this role you will have
Essential Security Clearance: You will be able to obtain and retain minimum Baseline Security clearance within six months to work with sensitive government and critical communications information

Tertiary qualifications in Telecommunications, Engineering, Cyber Security or equivalent demonstrated work experience

Relevant certifications or equivalent experience in penetration testing

Strong penetration testing, vulnerability assessment and security analysis skills

Excellent analytical, research and problem-solving capability
Nice to have
-
Understanding of Australian radiocommunications regulatory frameworks, including ACMA technical standards

Experience or interest in RF security research, including software-defined radio (SDR) tooling

Knowledge of radio standards, land mobile radio systems and associated architectures

Experience undertaking cyber security research, such as published CVEs, conference presentations or technical research blogs
