Primary objective
Provide assistance to health professionals to ensure safe, effective and culturally appropriate patient centred care.
Context statement
The Orderly provides essential support services across Katherine Hospital to assist clinicians in delivering safe, effective and
culturally responsive patient care. The role undertakes patient transfers, equipment management, emergency response support
and operational duties while working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the efficient functioning of hospital
services. Katherine Hospital serves a diverse population from Katherine and the broader Big Rivers Region, including remote
Aboriginal communities, requiring a strong commitment to teamwork, patient safety and respectful care.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assist health professionals with patient care including transfers, transportation and emergency response.
2. Assist health professionals with basic orthopaedic casting.
3. Assist with morgue duties as required.
4. Access, clean, maintain and store hospital equipment including medical gases as required.
5. Work with the security team to maintain safety of facility, staff and patients.
6. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety (WHS) policies and procedures relating to the work
1. being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
7. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated communication oral and written communication skills, including the ability to comprehend basic literacy
2. and numeracy.
3. Ability to adapt to change, respond to challenges and participate in a rotating roster.
4. Ability to undertake a range of manual handling tasks.
5. Knowledge of and commitment to relevant WHS guidelines.
6. Ability to effectively organise and prioritise own workload with minimal supervision.
7. Mature interpersonal and organisational skills, with demonstrated ability to work in teams and independently.
8. Proven ability to interact effectively and respectfully with people from diverse cultures.
9. Northern Territory Light Rigid drivers’ licence and senior first aid certificate or ability to obtain prior to commencement.
Desirable
1. Competency and experience in basic orthopaedic casting.
