What you’ll be doing
The Senior Engineer will design and deliver product capabilities that enable AI workflows within Reapit products.
This is a full stack role. You’ll work across React and TypeScript on the front end and Kotlin with Spring Boot on the services behind it, building the interfaces and workflows where AI-enabled capability meets the user.
We’re hiring across the stack, and we’re interested in engineers who are strong on one side of it and genuinely comfortable working on the other rather than handing it over. Tell us where your strength sits — we have roles leaning both ways.
All of our services are written in Kotlin. You do not need Kotlin to apply — if you know Java and Spring Boot, the ramp is short and we’ll support it. Note this is a server-side role: Kotlin here means backend microservices, not Android.
We have a preference for candidates who have experience using AI and agentic development practices to improve delivery, quality and maintainability.
Key Responsibilities:
Planning and Requirement Analysis:
Collaborate Across Departments: Work closely with product managers, quality assurance, and other departments to define technical project specifications and requirements.
Requirement Analysis and Estimation: Lead the team in analysing technical requirements, conducting research, and estimating efforts.
System Design:
Technical Design and Implementation: Design scalable, secure and maintainable solutions across React front-end applications, Kotlin and Springboot Services, REST APIs and integration points required to support AI-enabled product workflows.
Implementation:
Code Development and Review: Actively write production-quality React, TypeScript and Kotlin code, participate in code reviews, and uphold engineering standards across front-end and backend services.
Testing and Validation: Perform rigorous testing and validation of solutions to ensure the quality of deliverables.
AI Workflow Enablement: Contribute to product features that integrate AI capabilities into user workflows, including orchestration patterns, tool integrations, human-in-the-loop experiences, evaluation, guardrails and observability.
Documentation: Develop and maintain accurate documentation for engineering projects, ensuring all necessary materials are produced and maintained for future reference and compliance.
Project Delivery:
Agile Participation: Actively participate in agile ceremonies, including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and reviews.
Project Delivery: Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
Maintenance:
Technical Guidance: Provide technical guidance and support to team members on best practices and technical issues.
Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities for improving performance, maintainability, and team predictability.
Incident Management: Support the management of incidents and technical issues, helping drive appropriate decisions and communicating updates on active incidents to stakeholders.
Who we're looking for
At Reapit, we prioritise hiring individuals who share our values and possess the right attitudes and behaviours for success. Whilst some of the listed requirements may be important, don’t worry if you don’t meet all of them, we’d still like to hear from you.
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field or equivalent practical experience.
5+ years in software development, with modern React and TypeScript — component design, state management, front-end testing and accessible user experiences — Essential
Hands-on Java and Spring Boot — REST API design, service-to-service communication and production support of backend services — Essential
Comfortable owning a feature end to end, from the front-end through to the service behind it — Essential
Experience delivering product features that integrate with AI, automation or workflow orchestration capabilities - Preferred
Kotlin — nice to have, not required. We’ll support the ramp from Java.
Experience working with distributed teams, including offshore resources.
Technical Skills:
Strong React and TypeScript experience, including component design, state management, front-end testing and accessible user experiences.
Knowledge of relational and non-relational databases.
Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices, REST APIs and event-based architecture.
Hands-on Java with Spring Boot — API design, service-to-service communication and production support of backend services.
Experience with testing methodologies (unit/integration/E2E testing, mocking, shift-left).
Proficiency in CI/CD pipelines and build tools.
Exposure to public cloud platforms (preferably AWS) and familiarity with IaC tools like CloudFormation, CDK, and Docker.
Experience with AI-enabled and agentic development practices is preferred, including use of coding assistants, agentic workflows for development and testing, prompt/tool design, evaluation, guardrails and safe adoption patterns.
Understanding of SOLID design principles.
What your impact and success looks like
We expect your success and impact in the early stages of your career with us to look something like this:
Within 1 month:
You will be making a positive contribution on smaller React and TypeScript work items, and your first Spring Boot service changes, to introduce you to the technology stack and product domain.
You will participate in planning and estimation sessions, technical scoping exercises, and code reviews from day one, to help understand both the domain and the code, and provide your own feedback from your prior experience.
You will begin building relationships and trust with team members, as well as building an understanding of individual strengths, weaknesses and goals.
You will begin building strong relationships with other departments including Product, Design, QA, and Operations.
Within 3 months:
You will feel comfortable with the domain and Reapit’s products & services.
You will be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of the React front end, the Kotlin and Spring Boot services behind it, and the AI workflow capabilities being developed.
You will be independently contributing ideas for improvements both for the product and team processes.
You will be actively contributing to the team’s output, quality and culture.
You will be working collaboratively with the Product department to understand requirements and plan work.
Within 6 months:
Your contributions will be helping to shape the backlog and future direction of the products.
You will be delivering complex aspects of the AI workflow project with a high level of autonomy across front-end, backend and integration work.
You will be participating in agile processes, technical planning and design conversations, and helping the team make practical delivery decisions.
You will be contributing to a positive, collaborative team culture, promoting participation, teamwork, innovation and continuous improvement.
You will be ensuring quality and use of best practices within the team, from requirements gathering & analysis, through solutions design, documentation, implementation, and testing.
You will be helping the team apply AI-enabled development practices responsibly, improving productivity while maintaining quality, security and maintainability.
We operate a Flexible Working Policy and you are free to determine where you work from, be that from home or in the Sydney or Brisbane offices, and how often but we certainly recommend a balance.
