Quantitative Analyst — Systematic Hedge Fund
Join a systematic hedge fund that trades FX and Futures markets through a combination of top-down fundamental research, machine learning and rigorous quantitative modelling.
As a Quantitative Analyst, you'll use your expertise in computer modelling to work as part of a team building a deep, shared understanding of financial markets, contributing to the design and development of the predictive models that our quantitative developers and software engineers bring to life. Every model we run is understood and owned by the team that builds it — we don't deploy black boxes, and as a researcher here, you're the reason why.
About the Role
We're a Bayesian firm — we value intuitive priors and empirical inference to identify and prove a theory or relationship. We're not afraid to explore new ideas, and as applied academics at heart, we encourage theoretical and practical pursuits across data science, machine learning, stochastic processes, optimisation, signal processing and control systems, to name a few. Financial markets are the most humbling of all predictive systems, and the optimal place to test and hone your skills.
We're a small, agile team, and you'll have the opportunity to work across all areas of the business, collaborating closely with colleagues to design and build solutions with measurable, positive outcomes.
You'll:
-
Design and develop predictive models, working closely with quantitative developers to bring them into production.
- Apply rigorous, empirical methods — Bayesian inference, statistical testing, and sound theoretical foundations — to real trading problems.
- Explore new techniques across data science, machine learning, stochastic processes, optimisation and signal processing.
- Work with large, complex datasets, and contribute to how we collect, structure and interpret them.
- Collaborate directly with developers and other researchers to turn ideas into deployed, working models, and to build a deep, shared understanding of the markets we trade.
About You
You're articulate, intelligent, naturally inquisitive, and thrive in environments that encourage new ideas and value thought leadership.
You'll have:
-
A Masters or PhD in Physics, Atmospheric Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering or an equivalent discipline.
- A strong academic foundation with a passion for truth and the scientific method.
- A high level of initiative and self-motivation.
- Excellent coding skills and deep experience with large datasets (MATLAB, Python, C, Fortran or similar).
- A willingness to further develop and specialise your skills, including in financial markets, if you're new to the industry.
Nice to have:
-
Comfort in a Unix environment, with knowledge of cluster computing.
- Exposure to financial markets and software development — advantageous, but not essential for the right person.
We're happy to consider both entry-level and experienced applicants. Full working rights in Australia required. Sponsorship is not available.
Why Join Us?
We're a small, high-achieving team where individual contribution matters, and where the people building the models are trusted to understand them fully — not just deploy them.
You'll also get:
-
A competitive salary, together with an uncapped performance-based bonus.
- A fast, 3-stage interview process: a technical screen, a research problem to work through, and interviews with the team.
If you're accountable, professional, and want to work with some of the brightest people in the business on genuinely hard problems, we'd love to hear from you.
The AE Capital team does not require recruitment agency support — we have this covered.
