Pivotel delivers critical communication solutions across satellite and cellular networks – keeping businesses, government organisations and communities connected in some of Australia’s most challenging environments.
Our Technology team designs, delivers and maintains the communications infrastructure behind those services across Australia, New Zealand and globally, spanning satellite, mobile and IP networks.
We’re continuing to evolve our voice and messaging platforms and are looking for an experienced Senior Voice Engineer / Architect to join our Technology team on an initial 6-month contract, with the possibility to extend.
This is a senior, hands-on technical role for someone with deep experience across carrier voice architecture, SIP and Ribbon Session Border Controllers (SBCs).
You’ll take technical ownership across the architecture, design, implementation and ongoing evolution of Pivotel’s voice and messaging infrastructure, including carrier-grade SIP platforms, SBCs and 4G/5G IMS-based communication services.
We’re looking for someone who can come into the environment and contribute quickly – taking ownership of network designs, routing engines, platform migrations and complex technical escalations while helping shape the longer-term architecture and roadmap.
This role combines architecture with genuine hands-on engineering. You won’t simply be designing solutions from a distance – you’ll be involved in configuring and optimising platforms, troubleshooting complex issues, leading migrations and improving the resilience and scalability of our voice environment.
- Own and help shape the architecture and solution design for voice, messaging, VoIP, SIP interconnect and IMS-integrated environments
- Design, deploy, configure and optimise Ribbon SBC infrastructure across carrier networks
- Take hands-on technical ownership of Linux-based voice platforms and routing engines
- Lead voice architecture and integration across 4G/5G, IMS and VoLTE environments
- Design and support SIP interworking, Diameter signalling and carrier interconnects
- Plan and deliver migrations from legacy voice platforms to modern, scalable architectures
- Act as a senior escalation point for complex voice and messaging incidents
- Perform advanced protocol analysis, packet capture and root-cause analysis
- Design and optimise routing engines, dial plans and supporting automation
- Work with technologies including Redis, SQL, DNS and REST APIs
- Ensure voice architecture aligns with telecommunications regulatory and security requirements
- Work closely with carriers, interconnect partners, vendors and internal technical teams
- Develop clear architectural documentation, standards and technical designs
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship across the broader Technology team
This is a specialist senior position, so we’re looking for someone with significant hands-on carrier voice experience who can operate with a high degree of technical independence.
Ideally, you’ll bring:
-
Extensive hands-on experience designing, configuring, deploying and troubleshooting Ribbon Session Border Controllers
- Strong experience in carrier-grade voice and SIP environments
- Deep knowledge of SIP, RTP/RTCP, SIP trunking, softswitches and PSTN carrier interconnects
- Proven experience designing resilient, highly available telecommunications architectures
- Hands-on experience with IMS, VoLTE, Diameter signalling and 4G/5G mobile core integration
- Strong Linux administration and performance-tuning capability
- Experience with SMSCs, SMPP and messaging routing environments
- Experience with Redis, SQL, DNS, REST APIs and voice/network automation
- Strong protocol analysis and complex troubleshooting capability
- Experience planning and delivering complex platform migrations
- Strong technical documentation and architectural design capability
- Knowledge of Australian telecommunications requirements, including number routing, MNP and lawful interception
- The ability to work independently while engaging effectively with technical teams, carriers, vendors and other stakeholders
- 6-month contract with the possibility to extend
- Take technical ownership of a complex carrier-grade voice and messaging environment
- Work across Ribbon SBC, SIP, IMS, VoLTE, mobile and satellite communications
- Help shape the architectural roadmap and modernisation of critical voice platforms
- Lead meaningful platform migrations, optimisation and automation initiatives
- Work with experienced technical specialists, carriers and technology partners
- Enjoy additional paid annual leave during your employment – 3 bonus days available from commencement
- Hybrid working arrangements – 3 days in our Gordon office and 2 days working from home
- Access to Employment Hero benefits, including discounts and cashback on everyday expenses such as fuel, groceries, retail and travel
- Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offering 24/7 confidential support for you and your family
- Gordon NSW location with onsite parking
If you’re an experienced Senior Voice Engineer or Voice Architect with deep hands-on experience across Ribbon SBCs, carrier voice and SIP environments, and you enjoy combining technical architecture with hands-on engineering, we’d love to hear from you.
