About the role
The Specialist Advisor Target Qualifications – Learner Engagement plays a key role in designing, coordinating, and delivering social and emotional engagement activities for learners enrolled in Target Qualifications. The role has a particular focus on supporting learners experiencing intersectional disadvantage, including those participating in the Student Success Program (SSP).
This position leads proactive and embedded learner engagement through early intervention and case coordination. Working collaboratively with education delivery teams, Student Support Services, and external agencies, the Specialist Advisor addresses barriers that impact learner engagement, progression, and retention.
In close partnership with the Specialist Advisor –Teaching and Learning, as well as pathways and community engagement teams (including place-based outreach), the role ensures alignment between pre-enrolment engagement and in-program support. It also maintains a clear distinction between outreach and recruitment activities and in-course learner support.
About You
You are passionate about supporting learners to achieve their educational goals and have experience working with individuals experiencing social, emotional and wellbeing challenges, including those facing complex or intersectional disadvantage. You bring a strong understanding of trauma-informed practice and early intervention approaches, enabling you to identify risks early and provide proactive, learner-centred support that improves engagement, wellbeing and retention.
With experience coordinating case management and wrap-around supports, you can effectively connect learners with internal and external services to address wellbeing, safety and social needs. You are a collaborative professional who works closely with educators, leaders and stakeholders to remove barriers to participation and support positive learner outcomes.
Your strong communication and relationship-building skills allow you to develop trust with learners, families and community partners. You are confident monitoring and reporting on wellbeing activities, using data and evidence to inform continuous improvement. Above all, you are committed to equity, inclusion and creating opportunities for learners experiencing disadvantage to succeed.
