About the Branch
The Digital Information Services Branch plays a critical role in delivering agile, innovative and transformative information and technology solutions across Sunshine Coast Council. As part of the Business Transformation & Performance Department, the branch enables Council to provide sustainable, customer-focused services while supporting operational excellence, digital innovation and improved outcomes for the community.
This position is based at Sunshine Coast City Hall , in the heart of Maroochydore CBD. This state of the art and sustainable building is designed to achieve an innovative and collaborative workspace.
About the Role
As the M365 Information Compliance Specialist, you will lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of information governance and compliance practices across Microsoft's M365 environment. This is an exciting opportunity to influence how Council manages, protects and optimises its information assets, ensuring compliance with legislation, industry standards and best-practice information management principles. Working closely with stakeholders across the organisation, you will help drive digital maturity and strengthen information integrity across platforms including SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive and Exchange.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and maintain information governance policies, procedures and classification frameworks across Microsoft 365 platforms.
- Monitor compliance and information integrity through audit reporting, eDiscovery capabilities and governance controls within M365.
- Manage information lifecycle processes including classification, retention and disposal in accordance with Queensland State Archives requirements.
- Deliver training, guidance and expert advice to stakeholders while building strong relationships across the organisation to support compliant information management practices
About You
- You are an experienced information management professional with a strong understanding of Microsoft 365 Purview, SharePoint Information Architecture and information governance frameworks. You enjoy turning complex compliance requirements into practical, sustainable solutions.
- You are a natural collaborator who can confidently engage with stakeholders at all levels, providing trusted advice and building strong partnerships to achieve positive business outcomes.
- Your analytical mindset allows you to identify risks, interpret data and develop effective solutions that strengthen compliance, information integrity and organisational performance.
- You bring a strong understanding of relevant legislation and regulatory requirements, including information privacy, public records and right-to-information obligations, and are committed to maintaining the highest standards of governance and professionalism.
