I worked at the business much longer than I should have, however due to financial instability and manipulative management with empty promises, I stayed in hopes of it getting better and eventually grew used to the insufferable abuse which speaks volumes towards the damage they caused towards my mental health. I lost count of the amount of times I was expected to do things way above my pay grade, including running the restaurant completely un-supported when the owner would decide to fire the entire staff due to a bad mood he was in. I worked weeks on end without a single day off, worked from opening at 6am until closing at 10pm without a break, and I was always told it would get better and I fell for it every time like an idiot because I knew I needed the job. I was verbally abused and constantly put down, watched like a hawk for any moment I ever stepped slightly out of procedure, and watched as colleagues were fired without warning and robbed of their last paycheck, their notice period pay, and any annual and super they were owed. Public holiday pay doesn't exist, overtime is unpaid, and the payrate is incredibly low because you're considered part-time even though I would do 60 hour weeks and watch the juniors work 2 hours which isn't even legal. Rosters are digital and would change daily at all hours of the day to make sure the restaurant run at a profit meaning you couldnt have any sort of social life and came to their every beck and call. Liquor licence was often abused and minors were often overworked and working illegally. I had to attend therapy for the better half of the six months following my departure for the company, and have been verbally abused and watched ever since my departure.

 I ceased my employment with the shack mandurah after 2 months due to mental health reasons caused by upper management practises. Upon my employment in this venue I was led to believe that I would have a work life balance but what’s become apparent from constant phone calls at unreasonable hours & on my designated time off this is not the case. During my time here I have also been subjected to contradictory work place practises & have often had to use my own private funds to purchase items for this venue & have been left waiting repeatedly for days at a time to be rein burst for this which anyone would’ve find unacceptable. 

The local shack joondalup is a disgusting, uncleanly, toxic work place. The entire training consists of online modules done at home (read a recipe and answer multiple choice) then get less then a week of shadowing another kitchen member with an equal lack of formal training. When a staff member doesn't perform due to lack of training the owner yells at them then fires them rather then offering proper training. All staff are paid at minimum wage and then abused by management which creates toxicity. DO NOT WORK HERE YOU WILL GET ABUSED AND USED BEYOND BELIEF

I worked here from February 2020 to around June 2021, so a stint of a year and a half. If I could take that time back, I would. If you’re looking for a job, take your CV elsewhere because the shack will destroy you faster than you lll realise. Abusive management, underpaid, overworked, being thrown in the deep end with little to no guidance and expected to be perfect. I still can’t believe I lasted a year and a half at that place. Please take your CV into other businesses much more deserving. 

If you’re desperate I’d recommend applying for a local fast food place before I suggested the shack, management are new and don’t know what they’re doing, my last payslip was missing 4 hours of work meaning the pay for that work wasn’t there either which my manager has ignored a message about and there is seemingly nothing happening, I’m part time but being treated like a casual and not rostered on my minimum most weeks, not enough staff to do anything 

I advanced through the ranks rather quickly due to high staff turnover. Higher management are abusive and standards are held unfairly high by the owners ridiculous sales targets. You are not paid for any overtime but will be continually rostered for 10-15 hours minimum over your 50 hours a week salary which you will then be working for free. My annual leave was continuously "disappearing" and my super never  deposited. Ex work colleagues have reported not receiving their last payslip after being fired, losing a fortnight's wage for free.

I worked here for probably around 3 months and really regret it. They throw you into a kitchen with 0 experience and expect you to know what you are doing. The manager at the time was verbally abusive which made the job extremely stressful and hard. Even if you are looking for your first job, find somewhere else that will pay better and give you a better experience as my mental health really suffered and I didn’t really gain any valuable work experience.

The owner is an absolute user, gets you in for a 3 month trial then pushes the boundaries on fair work hours, tasks and asking staff to go between the stores and the local shops to get more supplies and upon returning being told that was your unpaid lunch break, until out of no where and for no good reason you get sacked and can't take it to fair work because it's within the amount of time he can legally did it.

In tears everyday, anxiety through the roof, vomiting from pure stress and fear, screamed and sworn at daily, crazy hours, never receive pay checks, hours worked altered post shift... 
if this sounds like something you look for in a job go ahead and apply. 

I’d rather be jobless and homeless than work for this company, my mental health will never be the same. 

If you can avoid this place, do so at all costs. The owners are abusive narcissists that belong in jail. Your sanity and health is not worth the pay check.

They are millions in debt to ex employees, suppliers and business partners. Absolute criminals.
