Can’t complain about clients, they are the job and should be expected to be problems. If you find this work rewarding, good for you, but be prepared to have your life in shambles due to this company. If you want to make any kind of decent living, be prepared to be on the road for 14 hours a day, but only being paid 5-6 hours. The wage isn’t bad, but the spread of your clients will ruin you. You will have no usable free time during your day, any time you have free will be driving to your next client (which isn’t paid for either), and then a useless chunk of time waiting. Prepare for your social life to die. What’s worse is the management, they change your roster without telling you, they don’t communicate changes with clients. You will end up waiting at a clients house for an hour for them to open the door, to find out no one is home because Mecwacare never informed the client of the changed time. Management will pressure you to take shifts despite telling them no, management will roster you on at the most inconvenient places for you at the most inconvenient times and guilt trip you if you decline the shift, or roster you on anyway without telling you. You may work for weeks without a single day off as those making the roster do not care about you, they only care about making sure a clients service is attended. Hypocritically making every possible scheduling mistake that ends in frustrated clients who will take their anger out on you and not mecwacare. 

Disgusting company for clients and their own workers leaving clients in their own faeces due to not having any decent workers or not paying their own workers enough. Terrible office culture in the job. 

Everyday they roster shifts without any travel time in between  hoping either clients own shifts run short due you to running around town like a headless chook or you’ll just be stupid enough to keep working untill 8pm and fill all those shifts even if you are late because of their scheduling.
 If by chance you are late to one shift because of this or any other roster mistake they make, you can expect them to call trying to put it onto you making you feel guilty. 

Even now they offered 250$ to anyone who can refer a friend to work and forgot to mention down in the small print you’ll actually only receive the full 250 after the person has worked at the company for 1 1/2 years. 

Anyone with half a brain will leave this job with mecwacare as soon as they get into it. They are hoping to recruit stupid people who don’t know what they are worth anyone who can do the work at mecwacare and last here is to good for this job and they pay to little for the amount and type of work you have to do 

I enjoy my work as it supports people to lead a better lifestyle.
I have various duties from house cleaning to taking someone to an appointment or shopping and personal care, showering, dressing and monitoring general health with feedback to the office.
I have learnt a lot about how others live, very interesting and the variation from one household to the next is never predictable.
I am allocated shifts that are usually best suited to my personality to enable  good communication from the start with vulnerable and the more challenging clients.
My co - workers do the same and we all support each other as we know what the position entails.
You face sadness and happiness in meeting your clients, sometimes you wish you could change things out of your control, like disease. Only you cant.
Id like to think my support has made a difference in the lives of these usually older people as i always give compassion, empathy and a laugh.
The most rewarding part is to see that you do make a difference.

My working day starts by greeting the client, (Private) then the change over from other Carers I relieve. Usually shower and dress client. Sometimes hoists are used. Breakfast and medication prompted or client takes themselves from dossett box. Client taken out for enjoyment or appointments. All meals prepared by Carer. Clients usually suffer from dementia of some kind I manage their troubles. I take care and watch them also try to amuse them. I enjoy my position when I see my client is happy and contented. The hardest time is when I see their health and mind deteriorating also when palliative care begins. Bedtime routine is difficult sometimes because client is tired, Hoist are usually used. Team work is the key to any 24hr. position. If their are any problems negotiate or ring Coordinator if problem can't be solved. The hours are long, I feel like a change from Direct Care.

mecwacare is a horrible company to work for. Management display complete lack of care and disregard towards staff, residents and their family's; lovely when trying to get money out of them though. Questions, complaints and suggestions are met with condescension and rudeness. Personal care workers are severely overworked and understaffed, it is not uncommon for 2 carers to be responsible for providing care to 25-30 residents. Absolutely horrible staff/resident rations; mecwacare has a strict "no agency" policy, stating that they have enough staff across sites to fill vacant shifts/ sick leave. This has NEVER been the case in my experience. The carers do an amazing job and try their best to provide high quality care to residents however the poor rations mean that some things are overlooked and left. Staff are stressed and burnt out which has created a hostile and toxic environment. Truly a shame for the residents.

What is the best part of working at the company?
They actually make me learn every position because of short staff.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The good manager always quit early and the one that hold the position longer as manager actually is the bad one for its role the actual CEO during my time don't act professional its all about number they visit the place and prompt the  staff this is the changes without collaboration and disrespectful on the spot.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Good outside rotten with management and very bad in staffing and system. not all of course, I could only say  to the place where I worked.  I love my elderly they are the best.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Most of the time I could say and come home I done good today, This company is Lucky I worked for them.


I am a new employee with Mecwacare. I have received unlimited support from my executives and other staff, I have been encouraged to reach out at any time. We have had a planning days and meetings to hear the plans Mecwacare have for the future. The plans are inspiring and make me feel excited that I am a part of the change. The executives ask for our input and listen when we speak. We are encouraged to enroll in courses and challenge ourselves daily. Mecwacare’s systems are also moving with the times. I feel privileged to work with a forward-thinking company and a leader in aged care. I have made the right choice working with Mecwacare.   


Mecwacare are absolutely hopeless and I would encourage people to look at other companies to work for. They told me they had heaps of work available and were desperate for workers. On the training they said they wouldn’t pay employees until all training and shadows shifts have been complete. They then forgot to put my details in the fortnightly pay and I waited almost a month for my pay and couldn’t give me a reason o how this happened to an apology to the stuff up. 
Management is hopeless, unresponsive and never know if you will have work lined up as they don’t respond or put in shifts and clients forward. 
I’ve been in the industry for 6 years and never had an experience this terrible.

If you are passionate about helping and supporting the elderly and disability community, then this employment may be what you are looking for.  Tasks can include, shower assistance, domestic assistance, shopping and meal preparation.
Jobs are added to your schedule and can be viewed in the Mecwacare tracking app. You are required to log in and out at each job.  Advice and support can be obtained by calling office staff.  Job is fast-paced with set tasks to be achieved within a set time.  Great clientele, usually very appreciative of your time.  Physically demanding if you do full days.

Very much a understaffed company where employees are taken for granted as those employed are too compassionate to let the residents and clients go without. Management left very much to be desired in for m of providing proper support and safe work environment for the staff. Also other staff members were very quick to push you under the bus so to speak in order to make themseves look better. The best part of this job was the clients, who were happy and wanting to improve their lives adn prgogress further to better themselves.
