I used to work for Risk Engineering on the West Coast and I wouldn't recommend anyone to work for the current management, especially the regional mgr. for commercial lines. Lots of politics, back stabbing, power struggle, the ol' boy network from Maryland rules here! The current mgr shows very poor people, mgmnt and technical skills and stays in power becuase of the regional director, as they both worked for the same company in the past - lot of nepotism here! A few employees quit in this economy as they didin't want to work for him! And, sadily, management in Schaumburg doesnt see the writing on the wall. The company in the past used to offer excellent benies, now they are horrible and the joke is that one day Zurich will ask you to pay for working here! In spite of horrible benies, the compansation was very good! But bonus, sadly, was based on nepotism and sucking up to mgmnt. I knew one engineer, a top notch, quit because of the current mgr. And others followed...Coupled with a few engineers quitting, the company had a lay-off when they starated writing a lot of real estate biz w/ big PMLs this past summer! Go figure! The new system, GREW, is a joke, cost lots of money, and doesn't work! They need to re-engineer, get rid of nepotism - especially on the West Coast - and ISO, which is holding back engineers who focus inwardly rather outwordly, ie, on customers. Also, lots of paper work, compliance courses that have to be done online on your time! In short, a lot of red tape, as Zurich has a procedure for everything - you ask your mgr and are told: "Look in procedures manual." That's why Zurich can't be competitive on pricing w/ other carriers! It just takes to much time to bypass the red tape! Good luck!

Unrealistic production demands based upon a "national growth strategy" with no considerations to regional market conditions.
There is a poor work/life balance and expect to put in 70 to 80 hour weeks traveling, managing submissions and renewals, and dealing with screw-ups from the underwriting folks. Management will stab you in the back any chance they get.
Recently, the company has gone through several distribution changes with a large segment of their "aftermarket" operation sold to a national agency group.
The dealer segment is no longer the recognized leader in the industry because of poor service and poor pricing.
In 2006, a management group of Universal Underwriters (the old company) attempted to take the company private from Zurich and failed. Zurich, not being the most forgiving company, thereafter put UUG on their hit list and things have never been the same.

Zurich had a great culture, people were always willing to assist others  if this was required. This was fully supported by and encouraged by management. Staff would share family stories and were all friends, a family away from the family.
The work was intense and even though you would start the day with a plan, the first phone call could change this in an instant so you had to be adaptable.
We received monthly training that was either identified by the staff or the Leadership Team.
In summary, Zurich, as stated had a great culture and staff were fully supported by management at both a work and personal level. 
I would recommend this company to any prospective employee.

Zurich is great place to work, friendly environment, flexible working hours and hybrid working; lots of employees benefits and employee engagement activities. Highly recommend the company.

Like every insurance company we have months that are busier than other, overall the management is very supportive , I never felt working under pressure or stressed.

Culture is inclusive and supports the individual needs, very flexible.

I have flexibility to organize my day/ time

Zurich always went out of the way to ensure staff were happy and if problems developed then these were addressed.  
After 25 years I learnt many skills to support me in my roles during employment.
Co-workers were all well suited for their roles and were provided with training to ensure they could manage their roles at the appropriate levels.  These situations were good for the company and the staff particularly in relation to performance appraisals and bonus payments bases on appraisals.

I would help with admin reconciling pension fund members, contributions and some benefit calculations. Time spent on front desk, courier, helping marketing with brochures and was interested in underwriting basics for life risks. Mostly a good team ethic and Zrurich supported internal and external studies.

A typical day would involve attending to broker queries, quotations, renewals. 

We had weekly product training from senior staff, which thought me a lot about Financial Lines

Management was great, very understanding and easy to deal with manager. 

The workplace culture was very friendly, we used to have monthly drinks. 

There really wasn't a hard part to my role, I enjoyed every moment.

I travel via automobile within the New England area.I worked from my home which was very convenient and enjoyable. The hardest part of the job was that the equipment I inspected was not always up to date on the national software. This added extra work and challenge to the job. The management was very pleasant and helpful.

Loved the sales environment, the pressure, targets, relationships. didn't like the culture. Massive change in management in such a short space of time caused a lot of uncertainty within staff and some  product decisions made it close to impossible to retain loyal customers.

Zurich has a practise to allow employees to seek for internal opportunities ard the globe after a few years of services.
This practise is supported by all senior management within different functions.
