A typical day at work involved ensuring the secure movement of people and goods in and out of the building, requiring a friendly and cooperative manner, knowledge of the regulations and continual watchfulness.

I know the procedures well, learned from our manuals and training courses, also the computers with their applications.

I felt "at home" I was very familiar with all the sites, management and  co-workers in a happy atmosphere.

Workplace culture - being cooperative, informing the next guard of the previous shifts events, punctuality, having a professional attitude and having a site that runs itself with the minimum of supervision.

The hardest part of the job was being constantly alert with no distractions.

The surroundings were comfortable in modern well equipped buildings at convenient locations with access to gym facilities. There was very often a function on where I worked and high quality food and coffee was frequently available to us.

Certificate 111 in operations.

I want to work part-time, 12 hours a fortnight would be ideal,
preferred sites Fairbairn, Deakin or Russell.

Consistancy of work in a comfortable environment is definitely a winner
but I would like to use more of my computer skills if possible.

Work involves either foot patrols, static guard work, monitoring CCTV cameras or car patrols (sometimes a combination of a few).

Most operations managers are good, honest people.
Most co-workers are good to work with but there's plenty who are incompetent in this field of work (since it's an easy field to enter).

Communications within the company are quite sub-standard due to basic mistakes made with payments and rostering (likely linked to said incompetent employees).
Because of this, the pay-slip is to be checked every pay day.

Hourly rates should be higher, especially considering the work that's done and the fact that the cost of living is rising, but the higher-ups don't want to do that.
Sometimes sites are deliberately set to lower levels than they should be, just for the sake of saving the higher-ups from paying you more.

Full-Time wages are on-par with McDonald's hourly wages, which is pathetic.

Working for Wilson security was not my decision to make. Prior to them i worked for ISS security after the company i was hired by went into receivership. We were all panicking because of this and thought we would be losing our job's.  Fortunately the company who hired us to perform their security service recognised our value to their company and chose to keep us employed through ISS for twelve months until a new security company could be found and contract signed. Unfortunately for us the new company was not ISS security as we'd all would have preferred but ended up being Wilson security.
Not surprisingly the first few weeks were fine but as time went on the " REAL " Wilson security showed itself costing the company who hired us some if not all of their most experienced and respected employees some of which had worked on that site since it was nothing more than a construction site way back in the mid eighties. I would say more but even now after being forced out more than seven years ago I still get angry and depressed thinking about what they did and how they treated us.

Worked with Wilson Security for 2 years and it’s a good place to work. Most of the sites I have worked at not only are clients nice and easy to work with majority of fellow guards are great to work with.  I have been looked after quite well especially when i have been injured or an incident occurred. Bosses always give a call to check up on your well-being. 

The only issue with Wilson currently is that the office is so disorganised. Rosters get muddled up as you end up with 3 people doing your roster. It ends up all over place with no roster provided till 3-4 days before your meant to be working. No fortnightly/ mostly rosters provided only given by week by week basis if they have the roster ready.

Overall I enjoy my work at Wilson security, it’s a good place to work, your looked after if something happens, pay is good especially on weekends and public holidays. Wilson has a lot of good sites to work at with each site having new experiences.

If you intend to actually perform the duties required of a security officer, stay away. Several serious beaches of contract or licensing have occurred with those I've worked with, and those responsible recieved no punishment, while the ones reporting were punished for doing so. Management is pathetic, the only way you'll recieved any actual support is if the client or your immediate manager cares enough to defend their staff. 
Check every pay slip, because most of the time it'll be wrong. 
New contacts with the company border or criminal as they offer you no job security, the company can decide to move you for any reason, any time they like. New starters are regularly offered permanent positions but are put into  roles where they get sent to any site where one of the staff couldn't be bothered coming in.

Team members are excellent and often have good attitudes towards their roles as a security officer. We conduct internal/external foot patrols, monitor CCTV coverage, issue passes and keys, maintain a running data log of events. The provision of learning tools via website training and team-talk activities. Security management are unfortunately, controlled by the client and more often the security policies and safety are non existent. Working culture is lost because it is all about the client's needs and wishes. The hardest part about the role is educating the client/staff of the importance of security and safety, especially towards the public. Unlike Defence the business staff do not encompass security policies or respect the guards and the roles that are necessary to maintain a secure environment.
The most enjoyable part is the location of the building.

Typical day - Security at high corporate sites. Too many to mention but my resume can answer that. What you learned - Again, in short, lots.  Always something to learn, improve and to give input with knowledge I have previously experienced. Management - need information from "the ground" to help make changes to better business. Reliability, consistency & honesty, being just a few. Co-workers - Everyone is different, but appreciate that some do better in certain areas and others in different ways. Work together to help each other grow. Hardest part of the job - Wanting to do more. Enjoyable part of the job - Doing a great job !

Management is bad they do not look after staff, only time they believe in OH&S is when an employee gets injured an then its the employees fault.
I cant rate this company high because my dog is treated better than the employees that work here,they have a great number of employee turn overs due to bad management.
This only applies to the Adelaide office as it seems to the employees that its the mates club, management are related to each other or are friends of friends, the only way to get a head is to be part of this family.
I have seen what this company has done to ex employees and to the ones that are employed, they appear to be above the law. 

This is one company to stay clear off.

Be prepared to submit a lot of pay queries. They will get your pay wrong quite often and then they will hope to not have to pay you for a while because, well they are just like that. 

The managers are mostly recruited from the guarding pool and most of them have little long term vision. It is all about the money but of course when you pay peanuts you will get monkeys. 

They will blame the guards for a lack of being able to retain contracts or acquiring new ones. The problem though is the managers are just terrible at what they do and as a result service suffers. 

By far the worst security company I have ever worked for. Utterly depressing.

A typical day is getting organised for the day's work.Lots of planning as well. Learn how to space out the time for patrolling each area on the site.Learn how to deal with different situations and people constantly ,learn how to communicate with your team and learned a lot about the safety in general. Management has to make the right calls for us to follow,everything is based on management so we can deliver the tasks accordingly. It's very important to have a good and dedicated team around you ,communication is very important with your team. There is no hard part in the job if I stay focus on what I was given to do. The most enjoyable time of the day is when the day is over and your management agknowledge you .Its a very good feeling to know that everyone's safe and well after the day's work.
