Used to be a great place to work, great team, ongoing training, incentives.
Earlier this year state manager was made redundant, Stores now being ‘managed’ by someone in Victoria, and since then we have not experienced anything positive from upper management . Negative emails only.
Focus used to be on customer service & teamwork, not anymore, focus has only been on petty and/or negative subjects. No recognition for the great sales we do, our awesome kpis go unnoticed, store manager has had absolutely no support from upper management or HR on some serious issues.
Sorry to say that the company has gone downhill in such a big way.
This time last year things were much different.
Disappointing to say the very least.

I found being in a so called team effort competitive work place meant no team work at all and no training . No help given to new staff who didnt know the layout of the supply room , they were left to fend for themselves . Work place culture is toxic and demeaning . Made to look stupid in the customers eyes by other workers if you couldnt find their shoes or sizes in the store room or you asked if they need any help (not knowing that they had been asked by another worker , this was a death by stare move ). I think this is a need i say more but the big bosses were also happy to demean you if they were visiting , throw shoes at you during a staff meeting and you didnt snap to it like you were on crack ! Nothing enjoyable about this job at all ... Toxic Toxic Toxic 

I always enjoyed coming to work, the team is always happy full of energy and we all worked well together. We used to get incredibly busy and we pulled together as a team, supporting each other. The hardest part of the job was 'back to school time'. Trying to keep everyone attended to with minimal staff and masses of customers with children was always a challenge. But by the end of the day, we saw how productive we were and left tired but happy. It needed extra effort and performance from everyone. I learnt that preparation is the key to a successful day, so you don't get caught out with chores not being done.

The Manager and 2IC were great leaders and mentors, retail was a whole new learning experience for me. I had worked in Customer Service all through my working career, but retail was different, I was made welcome within the team, shown what was required during my shift and always encouraged to learn and do more. My shifts in the begining were limited, 6 hours per week, this was soon increased to up to 20 hours per week.  The Manager had a work related injury, which resulted in restricted hours for her, form July 2011 to present.

Don't work for this company whatever you do if you love your confidence and love shoes take that passion elsewhere.
 they'll give very little training and expect it to be picked up just like that even if they change things around the store managers can belittle you and be quite nasty 
Compare you to other staff who've picked this job up quicker then some but its because they've been there long periods of time and are getting hours to learn to be honest I think that's all that's helped them learn because they certainly didn't bother to train me more then twice.
 If you're casual to they don't even have to tell you anything they just cut you out nothing said.


Started working here as a casual and the work is pretty good and easy. Interacting with customer, helping them find their right shoes & ringing them up. The most difficult part of the job would prob be getting 50 carton at the same time and expected to put all the stock away in very short time. Upper management should give the stores a notice before sending all the cartons so we can make room at the back. It’s unrealistic. Also during quiet times it’s hard to get a shift more than 3 hours but managers and the teammates are good and the pay is good for the work you do.

I worked in several stores for this company, for over a year. The managers in this stores have absolutely no idea how to inspire good work. they take the hardest workers belittle them, bully them and make  them very unhappy. it happened to me and many other great people i met there. The staff are lovely but mistreated. they aren't appreciated for the ones making the money and instead treated as expendable commodities for managers to mis treat and over work.

Working at Williams, most days i would be exposed to high volumes of customers and from this, learned to manage my time fast and effectively when it came to acquiring the product/s they were after. The most enjoyable part was having customers pleased with the shoes they were buying, and having them show positivity and gratitude for the help i supplied. The management and employees were really friendly, and always offered help when it was needed; as one of the trickiest parts of the job was remembering the stock room and where all the shoe boxes were located. Over all, really good and immersive job.

Bullying tactics with no respect, spoken down to constantly 
un approachable manager doesn't own up to own mistakes likes to lay blame , 
No communication 
company culture is ok but needs to clean out old debris with closed minds to change, company needs to change to move forward.
too many inexperienced managers with no respect for others.
Would not recommend  as a career.
this is the 21st century bullying is not acceptable & retail is constantly changing.

The work day includes reading of emails, making any changes in store regarding emails, setting daily budgets and targets, merchandising, cleaning, unpacking new stock, banking. I learnt if I keep calm all those around me will keep calm. Management are only a phone call away. hardest part of the job would be getting the merchandising done in time for a new promotion. The most enjoyable part of the job is working with a great team and serving great customers
