Worked as a Constant Patient Observer at times patients are incredibly combative, non compliant and verbally/physically aggressive ratios 1:4 with differing levels of needs, can be hard to prioritise a patient over another. Levels of support can at times be non existent depending on the area you work within and staffing. No opportunities for advancement and very little acknowledgement of role within the organisation.Unfortunately budgets can limit resources and thus the ability to adequately care for patients and the increasing ratios of carer to patient can be unsafe.  The good things: fantastic pay on casual rates, wonderful  staff for the most part and very caring people within the organisation. I wish my role however would be acknowledged as it can be so difficult some days. Very high stress with little outlets for debriefing. 

Working here will take a massive toll on your mental health, its stressful and degrading, you dont get trained properly but are expected to know everything after a month. Even if you make a few mistakes after a month or so in they have a meeting with you explaining that you should know what you are doing by now and they'll be keeping an eye on you. Huge work load, they expect you to go above and beyond and do other jobs that aren't in your contract. Managers get upset if you take sick days even though you are entitled to them and have a medical cert. You go to work feeling overwhelmed and judged and overall just a toxic environment. Reasonable pay and annual leave were the only pros about this place.

It is  always fun and happy to work in Western. Multidisciplinary team aims to work alongside the patients goals and provides support all the way. Supportive NUM aiming to hel staff reach their potentials. The hardest part of the job is when a new admission with multiple co morbidities but as the day progress it gets easier and better. The most enjoyable part is after a hard days work is relatives and patients is able see and appreciate the work done for them

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The management can be very unsympathetic and there is an extreme lack of communication and respect amongst the team

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The environment lacks communication, team player skills and respect for each other

The company is a very good place to work and I learned a lot from there. During the time I was employed there, I enjoy every minute of my time. I which I was I was still working there, but due to not having enough shift and being a caesura staff it is hard to have shift. And the money that I earn could not meet all my needs. My focus is to continuing working as a personal care worker.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Great educators and support. Lots of variety in work and opportunity to advance career.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Busyness and fast flowing patient care

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Great team and great culture on unit I work.

Great culture but unfortunately an organisation hamstrung by antiquated IT and business systems which impacted on productivity. At the time that I left the organisation was going through a transition period and all accounts I have heard since then are that a lot of the issues Western health had at the time I was there were ironed out.

With western health now for over 5 years and generally impressed with the support provided by the higher ups even throughout COVID years. Prefer Footscray campus over Sunshine in terms of other staff morale and teamwork. But that may change with the new Footscray campus coming. 

Good work place overall and room for career advancement however extremely fast paced and stressful for me. Work load is often unrealistic and supports are often compliance focused rather than supporting the individual. 

Very professional place of work with many opportunities to advance in your career and step up to try new roles and study for new things. There is always work and plenty career paths in hospital.
