The job of a Police officer is as thankless as any job could be.  You are pillaried most of the time for doing your best and beaten with a huge stick when you make errors.

The management style is guided by the media and not in the interests of the community and doing what is the right thing.

It is a worthwhile vocation and most people working within are good people with the right intentions.  The politicised meddling into the central tenets of what a Police Service is for means it will only get worse.

I liked it having worked there for 10 years and 8 months in the Department, but it all got too stressful for me in 2013 and I have gone through the Union in 2014 and just applied for a Voluntary Redundancy because it is too stressful with the Current Supervisor of mine still being there.  So for 2014 it is time for a career change and meet new co workers.

I joined at the older or mature age of 30 and really loved the blue family and the help you always had when doing this job because it is stressful being out on the road as a general duties officer you are the first responder to the incidents and never really know what you are going to be confronted with.  Most people are good and I believe being in the police force for the time I was, it opened my eyes to see how hard officers work and are passionate about trying to help the community and just go home safe.

As a Traffic Warden, there are no opportunities to increase work within the WA Police. Any other work is done through other websites. This job requires good observation skills, attention to detail, initiative , patience, ability to remain calm, be prepared for weather conditions.
Hardest part of job is when there are bad drivers and bad weather conditions. Best part of job is meeting people, being outdoors, exercise, hours.

Workplace morale is at an all time low. Police especially frontline staff are being asked to do more with less resources. Current commissioner is attempting to resolve this but due to constant changes in policy and expectations from midddle to upper management much seasoned police of 10 years plus are leaving the agency in droves.

Long career with Police but when I developed depression I did not get the support I expected.

I worked at various units including the Police Academy and Intelligence Portfolio. There were challenges and some of my tasks were enjoyable. You get to meet all sorts of people and I found most of my years to be great only the last 5 years were a struggle as I developed depression after loosing family members.

Excellent place to work which promote equal opportunity, very friendly support team and team leaders are always willing to help. WA Police gave me opportunity to work with them when I have no experience and just freshly out from the University for which I am very thankful and would be looking forward to working with them again.

A myriad of roles, each of which has its own shift requirements, perks and disadvantages.
The only thing constant with the agency is change.
The job is what you make of it; if you can deal with the worst of humanity, then this may be for you.

Demanding work which requires a high level of scrutinization
Shift work took a large portion of quality family life.
The continuous work  pressure creates poor work relations with co-workers
exposure to pollution from working near public roads decreases the health and fitness.
