Wesley Mission is one of the most leading providers in looking after the aged and confirmed. All their technology and training is up to the date and have been rated as one of the top nursing facilities in Australia.
A typical day at work is addressing the most important need of the residents and preparing them for the day, this may be from showering to dressing, preparing them for breakfast and in some instances feeding them. From here it is just of process of what is important and what needs to be done from minute to minute. We do have a set routine but when you are dealing with people that have dementia, you sometimes just have to take one step at a time.
My work colleagues are lovely and we all work as a team, sometimes we are buddied, but it depends on the residents and what is required for the day.
The hardest part of the job is seeing people locked in their own minds, without a clue sometimes of where they are and why they are there. The other part is that some of the residents are just basically dumped in the facility and don't have any visitors or relatives that come and check on them. The other sad thing is that we operate on what is called the "Eden Philosophy" where residents have their personal things and sometimes their animals around them. Some residents have absolutely nothing that reminds them of home, not a TV, a picture or anything familiar and that makes me so sad.

I have been in there for about 9 months and the treat to new staff and old staff is totally different. Old staff tries to dominate new staff and try to point out on so much small things that is totally irrelevant. If they reply back and oppose there saying then they are first to give review to new staff as to show that new staff behaviour is poor and aggressive.  The management is also so poor and they barely listen to new staff suggestions. I have personally faced such issues and the treat and respect they shows to new hospitality staffs, it’s like we are the under rated staffs. The work load according to pay and the expectations they see is always high. There is much more pressure in Kitchen in the morning. I am not sure if it’s same situation in all the facilities, but where I am working it’s really poor. And even they interpreted the wrong complain that is different scenario that had happened. 

It’s hard to get with the old staff and they really don’t feel as they are also the part of that community. That what I feel in my experience. I may also have got some issues but as human nature I can also feel how the person is treating me.

senior management have no clue what happens on the care floor; the stresses and strains, under-staffing, staff working over-time & missing breaks to provide one-to-one care. sadly there is strong culture of bullying, blame, harassment; inconsistency and favoritism exist.
The NGO is primarily Christian. It promotes and practices Christian values and beliefs yet Buddhism reigns in this environment! mindfulness and meditation sessions are compulsory elements of your training & work. If you're a christian and don't agree then be prepared to be challenged or persecuted for standing by your faith.
lack of career development, no funding, no progression. inadequate support and mentorship.

Overall WMQ can be a good place to work if you’re able to align yourself with line management’s personal agenda and opinions. When you are in favour and following the line management’s directives to behave horribly to other team members, it is a very easy place to work in, however when you start placing professional boundaries, this can lead to being in the line management’s firing range, which continues the toxic cycle and environment. 

There are some toxic teams, conflicts of interest in management due to personal long term relationships, inability to report concerns to upper management due to their personal relationship with your direct supervisor. 

Fantastic opportunities to work within other teams and programs whilst holding onto your permanent position. Great professional development opportunities are often presented.

The people I worked with were wonderful, and WMQ's committment to expanding their work from a social justice perspective was refreshing. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The higher-up decision to move our service type over to another management model, as this effectively removed us from working under WMQ.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
When I was there it was varied, and I was fortunate to work with some amazing people who challenged the status quo from a DEI&J perspective..which was tumultuous but also brought exciting change.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Lots of collaboration, new and interesting questions to wrangle with, values based work.

Working as a team and helping others makes me feel good

I have learned to be patient, not everyone is the same, learned to work under pressure and stress and never to give up, because there's always a positive in a negative situation, you just need to be patient.

Management is always there to support employee's in what ever problems they may have and its not just your co-workers you need support but also from managements. 

I love to work as a team and to share what I have experienced and to help where ever I can. I work well with others and communication with your co-workers get the job done.

At the end of the day if my goal was not success then I tend to take my work home and continue till I accomplish.

The most enjoyable part of the job is when you have helped someone smile and helping them achieve their goal.

Working with the clients they were wonderful

Having a care coordinator tell another worker about personal information which is a breach of confidentiality and with this coordinator there was favouritism

Was ok a lot  bad stabbing favouritism if there was none of the workplace would of been great 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A lot of cleans I didn’t to all my study to be a cleaner

Whilst the interview and onboarding process was efficient, once I commenced there was no work ready for me. I had to find my own work and I was micro managed to a severe degree. My two direct supervisors didn't seem to want me to be involved with the project we were working on and my training was left months until the day before the system went live. I was often spoken down to and belittled or told to be quiet. Sad as my line manager was wonderful when I resigned and provided feedback on my experience. 

Organisation enable managers to bully staff.
Aiming to reduce staff security, forcing staff to take 3 hour shifts and broken shifts without penalties.
Organisation actively trying to get rid of long term staff and replacing them with pool staff with 16 hours a fortnight contract.
HR not listening to staff's concerns and on the side of management.
Wesley should look at their mission statements and change them to suit with their current aims.
