Wesley Mission

Worked as a CCW out of Sydney South office.  My Co-Ordinator was lovely and was given plenty of work and work variety.  Worked with aged care and  disabled clients in the community.  Learned how to care for disabled clients. Co-Ordinators in the office were great, always had backup for us CCWs.  Lots of training and updating of our current and new skills. Typical day was travelling to clients home, assisting with showering, dressing and breakfast, domestic assistance, assisting client with exercise programme.  Second client for the day could be taking them shopping, to the doctor or other appointment and/or doing their washing or socialising.  Third client could be making their bed, doing their shopping or just socialising and monitoring their medications.  Evenings were assisting disabled child with personal care, dinner and respite service.

Co-Workers all lovely and hardworking and made quite a few friends.  

The hardest part of the job was having to leave the lovely clients after 2 years,. 

The most enjoyable was seeing the clients faces light up when you come to their door for the service and being able to help make an elderly persons day better.  Assisting the disabled child and helping the mum to have some respite time.

After 5years in training it was pure pleasure to get back to my grass roots working in aged care with the clients, careworkers, nurses and allied health. I thorougly enjoyed the opportunity I had to move into a coordination role in community care.

I learned to assess clients needs using and ONI and create Care Plans that reflected these needs. I learned to adapt these CP's according to the clients changing needs, including doing reviews on return from hospital at at 6mth intervals.

I learned to work closely with care staff to provide wholistic care for the clients.

I learned to orientate staff and provide assistance with manual handling and WPHS questions as they arose. Helping to solve all those little day to day problems that arise in order do make the workplace a happier and more functional place for all.

I learned that I still enjoy one on one assistance with the clients when I was needed in the field.

The hardest part of the job was walking away at the end of the contract. Due to a new system being introduced there are less management roles and there was no place for me to continue in a coordination position.

During my two years working in disability support at Wesley Mission in Woolooware, a typical day involved assisting clients with their personal needs, promoting independence, and supporting them in daily living activities while ensuring their safety and wellbeing. Throughout this experience, I learned how to provide person‑centred care, communicate effectively with individuals of diverse abilities, and respond calmly to behavioural or emotional challenges. Management was generally supportive, offering clear guidance and encouraging continuous learning and professional development. The workplace culture was inclusive, collaborative, and focused on delivering compassionate, high‑quality support, which made the environment both positive and motivating. The hardest part of the job was navigating complex client behaviors and managing emotionally demanding situations, but these moments also strengthened my resilience and problem‑solving skills. The most enjoyable part was building trusting relationships with clients and seeing the positive impact of helping them achieve greater independence, confidence, and quality of life.


I have worked for Wesley Mission for almost 4 years.  2 years of which I believed I had the dream job.  But the last two years have been distressing and I believe under managed due to under managed staff, a huge growth in Client base and changes in staff & Management Issues. 

A typical day as far as Administration is very normal and routine, but can become quite crazy and frustrating due to lack of available staff. The sick leave rate is high and co-workers are highly stressed a lot of the time.

The hardest part of the job is explaining to Clients why Staff are not available. Within Out of Home Care there is a lot of work done outside of the office and the Administration needs to relay Calendar details to Clients and if they are not complete, then you are left wondering what to tell the client.

I believe in Wesley Mission and what they stand for, but have been disappointed with the current staffing issues and restructure. Hence looking for an alternative position.

Everyday was different, Iearned not to take everyone at face value. Everyone has their own story in life, show empathy, be patient, listen, and let them know your their for them. Empower them by allowing them to succeed, whether its something as simple as making a cup of tea, or doing documentations etc. Mostly one worked on their own, but management was always only a phone call away. Loved the job, meeting new clients, especially the ones who disputed everything you tried doing for them, I saw them as a challenge. Loved seeing their faces light up when they saw you. That is what made the job enjoyable. Its about positive outcomes, no matter how small or big they are. Losing a cllient is the hardest part of the job, but the enjoyment I got was knowing...I made a difference in the short time I was with them.

Typical day is support from co workers, mostly lovely patients, stressful situations being the messenger caught between dr and patient disputes on finances or agreed actions. 

I learned to not read people on face value, that everyone has a story and that money is priority in health departments. 

Management above the practice manager was unwilling to listen to feedback or ideas that would improve the workplace for staff and it’s patients. Including major safety risks. 

The culture is the patient can afford anything they ask for. 

The hardest part of the job was management not seeing dangerous situations as a risk to its staff. 
Not willing to provide training . 

The most enjoyable was seeing patients genuinely get better. 

The best part of working at Wesley Mission is the people. When you work with society's most traumatised, their behaviour is often dysfunctional because of their previous trauma, so it's vital that your team works together and backs each other up. My team members were wonderful and we always did our best to support each other.

Sadly, management are often stretched thin so aren't always available to support staff or provide resources. It took many years for appropriate safety equipment like duress alarms to be installed and/or provided by management. This is highly concerning in an environment with a high rate of critical incidents, vicarious trauma, and risk of harm to staff and other clients.

It'was 8 to 4:30 Monday to Friday public holidays off.  The hours are flexible 9 to 5 etc.  One of the best organisations I have worked for.  Great friendly team with great sense of humour.  The organisation has a heart and the employees.  Do all you can is exactly what they do.  It's a very meaningful place and rewarding.  I am not a Christian and you don't have to be a Christian to work there.  I worked mainly from the Taree office and have worked at other locations.  I would still be there if the programs were still funded today.

No learning opportunities, management is not supportive at all how much you try to work hard.

Not enough training expects to know everything. Sometimes trained for few days and expected to work perfectly.

No proper supervision, very demotivating and looking for mistakes. Some people in management does the same thing but when done by an employee, was told it was not appropriate.

a typical day at work at wesley mission includes cleaning and kitchen hand duties. i learned various cleaning jobs which include vacuuming and the importance of hygiene cleanliness. other duties learned include the preparation of meals and kitchen hand tasks for the clients at wesley mission. the management at wesley mission are caring for your well being and close supervision and education. the hardest part of the job were the long hours and the most enjoyable was doing the job to best of my ability.
