Warrigal Care

This has been the only industry I have worked in that I have to be up so early. I love my job and am happy that I have finally found a career I enjoy. My day starts off with hand over learning what has happened in previous shifts. We then wake the residents and either give them a wash or a shower and get them ready for breakfast, some residents require bed baths and lifters. I assist in feeds and food service and help to prepare meals. Throughout the day I answer buzzers, take residents to the bathroom, hair appointments at our in house hairdresser or in house physio therapist. Take weights and sometimes OBs. Assist with wound care and occasionally meds. Assist the men with shaving and dry skin and the women with face care, dry skin and nail care. I refresh the residents towels and take dirty washing, make beds etc. I enjoy helping the kitchen ladies with morning and afternoon tea and getting residents ready for lunch and serving their choice of meals. After lunch is time for toileting schedules and making notes in icare.

I have learned so much in my time at Warrigal and are proud of my achievements between the workplace, incontinence management, training and Tafe. I believe there is something new learned everyday and consider myself to be a sponge for new information.

My co-workers are great although we are always understaffed and pushed to our limits. We get along well and work exceptional as a team. I believe I work well under pressure. 

The hardest part of my job is watching the residents decline and preparing the deceased for their families and funeral directors. the most enjoyable part of my job is getting to know the residents, their families and gaining their trust, hearing stories from the past and working within a great team.

A typical day at work is you go in, you say hi, I'm in the kitchen and all they grumble and say hi. They boss you around till the end, you do your job.
You learn to stick to your own unless being spoken too and you stay professional.
Management are wonderful people, they try so hard to keep the facility bully and harassment free, but sometimes they can drop the ball, they have no negative words from me, I love them all to death, I just wish some of the staff could be the same. I love the care staff they're all lovely people, the only issue is the kitchen staff, not all of them are horrid people maybe 2-3 non-Warrigal staff.
Co-workers, are one-sided nasty malicious people, I best avoid them when I can by cleaning other kitchenettes make sure they're clean until they really need the help, but I stay professional and do not complain, unless they break the law/rules.
Hardest part of the job is coming into work and actually being there with them all (in the kitchen).
Most enjoyable part, is when I go into the laundry, or when I get to be on the floor and see all the lovely residents, they're the highlight of my days, a very special handful of them I'm especially close too, but I love them all.

Training on manual handling given on the wards and during classes provided by the organization in a lecture situation after we began.

rotations in ward work and certificate 1V of lifestyle and recreation for the patients in the dining room. Playing games, dancing, competitions and talking to relatives, feeding patients, toileting, playing with balloons and soft balls.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The clients. When they look forward to seeing your happy place, that's what made my day.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Everything. No management support, non-english speaking staff, not enough staff.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
There is no work environment. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
You want to collapse on your bed and sleep because you are so tired and lacking in care for the lack of care management give you.

With my one-week work experience, I had learnt how to communicate with the residents, deal with issues they are facing and aid in their comfort. 

The management was well handled as the security was maintained properly. The residents were always comfortable and happy with their services.

Overall, a fantastic working environment that provided me with needed skills and knowledge within the workplace.

The previous manager from 2018 was horrible to staff, treated them with little to no respect. I believe the new manager is one of the staff members already and treats everyone with respect, she is what that place needs to succeed.

The people I work with are like minded.

Getting all the documentation required completed each shift.

Very friendly and supportive.  

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Constant and busy but very rewarding.

I was doing work experience at Warrigal Care one day a week for four school terms.
I loved talking to the clients there, they had such amazing stories and they were all so lovely. That was the most enjoyable part
The co-workers at Warrigal were very nice, they were very helpful.
The hardest part about being at Warrigal Care was getting really close to a client or forming a bond with a client and have them pass away or move.

I personally wouldn't recommend  to anybody  The whole of Warrigal no matter which site you work with the whole staff are about the same. My experience is watch your back in what ever you do on any site.
