There are no typical days as security deals with a wide range of incidents across a 24 7 roster that makes no sense and constantly changes without warning and doesn’t care about your sleep. There is nothing in the way of training and they will make you do everything by yourself. The managers are extremely toxic and don’t like to do any work at all. So many dodgy things going on in and out of the office by managment. All the managers do is blame their staff for all of their mistakes while rewarding themselves for everyone else’s hard work. The hardest part of the job is working with managers that have no idea what they are doing and can’t even pay their staff right. They do not provide you with enough staff or equipment or vehicles to do the job right and when something goes wrong or staff get injured or something else that makes them look bad they cover it up and pass the blame. All the staff have left or are leaving because of the mangers ruining the department into the ground. Most enjoyable part of the job is being on patrol in the outback away from the office where the days are soent complaining and gossiping and back stabing about their staff. There are lots of good people in town to keep safe and make friends with but managment wants to spy and punish them for no reason so it’s impossible to work for the people in charge or have a life out there. 

Don't believe the lies, they will sell you the dream but it's far from the actual truth. Please be aware that when they tell you that you will receive relocation allowance of $700 what they don't tell you until you arrive is that it it subject to you completing 6 months of employment, which is fair but this needs to be made clear before you accept the job, not once you have arrived. 

I've worked in the hospitality industry for a long time and I've seen it all but this company is definitely among the worst employers I have worked for. They don't care about there staff whatsoever. 

I was told that they don't pay overtime to salary employers, and I was also instructed by management that if we need the staff to work longer hours tell them to come in but not to clock on for their shift until their actual start time. They will change all the time sheets when approving them to a 38 hour work week! 

If they tell you that you will be able to save lots of money this is also a lie as once you are on the resort everything is extremely expensive. The IGA is the only place for food shopping and the prices are insane. 

When it comes to job training, well it doesn't exist. They will just throw you in the deep end, it's like working in the 80s, all the systems are so out of date and make the job much more challenging then it needs to be!

The only positive is the accommodation that was provided, it was great, along with the housing team 👏! 



Sadly, relocated to Ayers Rock Resort from NSW in 2012 as a Security Officer. Having worked in a vast field of the industry upon arriving and seeing what the security control room was like I knew it wasn’t going to be an easy adjustment. They lacked to provide the necessary equipment in order for us to do our role effectively, I was there in winter and we didn’t even have jumpers/jackets given to us where on occasion can easily get into the minuses at night. 

The primary role just like any in the industry is to protect people and property though without having management and HR backing us was a real let down. 

We were instructed to what we had to do, abiding by NT legislation though when we enforced the rules HR and alike 9/10 revoked the punishment and let everyone get away with murder, (not in the literal sense) 

Having the Police in Yulara would make you think it’s going to be reasonably safe working and living there, absolutely not. Back then most residents didn’t call the police in an emergency but instead us as we had a much quicker response time. During my 6 months, I attended, first on the scene violent assaults, domestic abuse cases and brutal sexual assaults. None of this reaches the media either.  



I highly doubt things have changed.

Favouritism is rife through the organisation, especially in security. 

The only training provided is repetitive WHS modules  - which are routinely ignored or broken by management themselves. 

Fortnightly payslips are always incorrect, and the onus is placed on the employee to have them rectified. 

Systems are archaic, equipment and vehicles in constant short supply or faulty, uniforms are terrible, most of the staff have been intentionally trained to be lazy. 

Management constantly sweeps issues under the rug to protect themselves, their ego, and their friends. 

Management is lazy, blissfully unaware of the tasks performed by staff, and illiterate. Management is only concerned about themselves and their own excessive food consumption.  

Management will also routinely spread rumours, gossip and innuendo to negatively effect the personal lives of staff, including banning birthday parties. This means management has effectively stripped away the one positive and enjoyable part of the job. 
There is less than zero support from management overall. 

Yulara is a beautiful part of the world, however certain people in positions of power have largely ruined it. 

I’m unsure how a large company like Voyages allows a department to be run the way security is. It was an experience but there was nothing to learn from the people who think they are in charge. 

There is far too much managerial incompetence, backstabbing, favouritism, cover ups, pay disputes, politics, blaming residents, and blaming security staff for leaderships own failures and bad decisions. 

There is nowhere near enough training, equipment, vehicles, PPE, staff, sleep, edible food, accomodation, pay and other benefits, physical fitness standards, intelligence, communication, or basic leadership to be taken seriously. 

The best part of being in Yulara is the amazing surroundings and great people you meet. The hardest part is that security ‘leadership’ will invade your private life and space to try and ruin that for you every chance they get. 

There are still many other interesting jobs in many other departments for Voyages. Security is beyond a joke at this point and has been so horribly managed while staff so horribly treated that it doesn’t even deserve one star. 

Fair warning to anyone thinking of joining security, now is not a good time. 

Nobody wants to do any work, especially the managers. They punish hard workers and reward the laziest ones. removing just one or two managers from the department would immediately make the day to day life better and the town as a whole better and safer. 

The department is full of backstabbing, lies, cover ups, corruption and gossip by management. We have the worst possible managers to be responsible for anyone’s safety or security. Zero support from managers and human resources. They have ruined the department and blame everyone else for it. 

For regular security officers pay is well below average and you still won’t be paid correctly. Rosters do not rotate only management gets day shift, you will go weeks or months without seeing a manager and even longer seeing them do any work. It’s not worth staying long which is why anyone decent leaves shortly after arriving. 

Laziness and entitlement rules the security department. Leadership and accountability is non existent.

The companies core mission of changing Indigenous Lives through cultural tourism is one that sparks pride when waking up in the morning. The experience of living and working at Uluru is powerful. Remote living is something to be embraced and the small friendly community makes you feel right at home. 

For the right person you can progress through the ranks quite quickly with fair and equitable promotions delivered and priority to promote those already employed. Of course not all managers are the same, but my experience was positive.

Buying your own groceries for dinner with next to nothing discounts. They know how to get the money back they pay you!!!!

Pretty good to be honest, the culture is exceptional on it’s recognition to the original native people

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Swatting flies all day while sweating all day if you work outside majority of the time

I absolutely love Voyages and Yulara, it's because of this company that I have been able to explore alternative career options.

My manager not only holds so much knowledge of the industry but he allows me to advance myself professionally by providing me with the training I will need to progress further in my career.

The town itself is like a home away from home, everyone is friendly and welcoming at the start and you really make life long friends by living in such a small community.

Like all small towns it had it's problems, but I enjoyed working there.
Worked in Tech services as an electrician and then was promoted to being hotels supervisor for the 5 star hotel as there was 5 hotels there which different star ratings.

Was a great bunch of people and I enjoyed going to the staff pub for a meal and competition darts.

There was plenty to do from going to the gym and pools to events that were organised to do.
