Village Roadshow

I started at Roadshow on a Q4 contract. Q4 is the period in the year which is the busiest time - September - January. After the contract was finished they asked me to stay on as a casual, which I gladly accepted.
My daily tasks are talking with customers who call in. Our four distributors are Village Roadshow, Warner Bros, Paramount and Reel.
The most enjoyable part of this job is getting to be in the Entertainment industry. We get all the information first hand of the new releases and releases to come out in advance.
Management here are friendly and are flexible and understanding to peoples needs. We recently had a staff meeting and the leaders asked us how we think we would like to see improvements in the company so that we can enjoy working there. Our biggest release is next week and they have offered to give us a huge lunch during this time. They dont want us over stressed as they understand that being stressed doesnt encourage us to work better. They have also asked us where we would like an all expenses paid outting for our department. I love that they respect us and are concerned for our well being.
The hardest part of the job is at times the phones are extremely busy. Our tasks require us to be focused and concentrate. This can be difficult when the phones are ringing constantly. Every phone call is important and requires our full attention.
I have been very grateful to have full training with the SAP system. I didnt know how to use this system until I worked at Roadshow. I have also been trained in using the Warner Vanguard system.

my main job is to run the Gold Class kitchen and manage incoming stock, daily tasks may include;
- Preparing food and beverages orders in accordance with the company guidelines.
- Help train new employees 
- General cleaning duties
- Inventory management including making stock lists, rotating old stock, stock take, checking deliveries and organizing store room.
- Serving customers over the counter and putting orders into the computer system.
- Cash handling including EFTPOS and credit card transactions.
- Running a small team of kitchen staff during diners service and special events/functions.
- Ensuring kitchen is kept clean and maintaining food safety standards.

Over the years I have learned how important team work and effective communication is for all work places. For a business to work all team members must be dedicated and committed to achieving specific and timely goals, that are set by managers and staff. I have also learned the importance of organization and preparation, being ready to handle any challenges that you are faced with. You must be able to follow established processes and take orders from managers, but at the same time you must also be able to work independently improvising and adapting to specific situations. The main challenge is maintaining consistency in service and policy, because the age and experience levels of employees are so varied. And with a high turn over its difficult to keep every team  member up to date.

days at work usually started with a visit to the construction sites ensuring problems and programs were dealt with and the construction flow continued. Following that it was back to the office for meetings em ail and gathering briefs from our stakeholders. During my thirty years in and around the organisation I was able to gather a comprehensive understanding of all facets of theme park management, construction, programming , problem solving and budgeting coveting off such diverse projects from marine mammal installations to coasters. Workplace culture was intense but satisfying. We were a small but highly skilled team. Hardest aspect of the job was being able to service all the necessary requirements within the day. Best part of the project was viewing the publics reaction to our newly completed attractions.

I only worked there for a few months as a casual but I learnt heaps and I loved working for Village Roadshow, particularly at Outback Spectacular; being around the Horses, Animals, Cowboys and Cowgirls.
There was always a sense of excitement at all the parks where I worked.
The other staff members were usually friendly, helpful and easy to get along with.

Management were disgusting. Almost pits their employees against each other to get trained on new rides etc. they refused to see staff as people, and only viewed them as pay checks and bodies and would constantly enforce that “if you don’t want to be here we don’t care, there’s 100’s out there to take your place”. Employee turn around in department was highest I’ve ever seen in a workplace which tells you a lot. Most people quit after 3 months average, others have stayed because they’re just used to the bad treatment 

I worked as a temporary entertainer on a seasonal contract for frightnight. two nights a week for a month with really good pay, half hour on half hour off. fun environment. 
there was not much in the way of guidance or training, entertainers were leftto their own devices and a downfall would have been the lack of security for difficult members of the public and working with internal staff. 
a bonus though was getting free entry into the parks for the rest of the year as well as a party at the end of the contract.

- Learned a lot about Accounts Receivable, high volume.
- Good management
- Workplace culture, good team of more than 10 years in the Co.
- The hardest part of the job, I was employed on temporary basis to occupy different positions as people was on sick leave, maternity leave or long service leave. Was to adjust to all of this and the Accounting and Management system was changing.
-The most enjoyable part of the job was the support of some of the team members.

if i was to review everything, i would say the theme park i a working at is pretty unorganised, the staff don't know what they are doing the "bosses" are bad, they don't know how to handle guests properly it is horrible.

Responsibility for the creative output of an in-house design team for various departments of Village Roadshow Limited.
Over the years I have witnessed the change from print based advertising to digital and experienced the learning curve that came with it.
The successes we have achieved go hand-in-hand with the relationships built over the 15 years I have spent with the company.
