-UNSW successfully receives a lot of funding every year in comparison to other universities in Australia however the output is very poor.
-The universities credentials and prestige is reliant on the productivity of a few labs (mainly computer science and engineering) only while the rest of the labs are sub-par.
-Researchers at UNSW are mainly concerned with status and benefits rather than producing quality research.
-Most of the research is very shallow and can be picked apart fairly easy however with good politics low quality research can be published easily.
-Salary is extremely generous at UNSW. This is to attract scientist by money rather than the quality research.
-If considering going here to pursue a career in a research I would heavily advise to do thorough research on the lab of interest and think critically about the work being published and not just where the work is published (i.e. Nature, Nature, Nature).
-However, I do highly recommend attending the university as a student. Student services and programs are plenty and will provide a rich experience and many platforms for new undergraduate/postgraduate students.

This was my first position upon graduation so much was learnt in relation to the practical operation of a Research Laboratory.

Upon receiving guidance from my supervisor and colleagues, experiments would be undertaken to produce relevant organophosphorous compounds.    The extreme reactivity and toxicity of these compounds was a prime concern.

Reaction products were subject to; infrared spectroscopy, NMR analysis and X Ray Crystallography.  All these tasks involved liaison and consultation with colleagues.

The day to day running of the laboratory-maintainence, ordering of equipment, cleaning etc was  a constant focus.

Seminars were attended on a weekly basis in which research from within the Faculty (Organic Chemistry, UNSW) was discussed.

The faculty had a warm and collegial atmosphere where all individuals were valued.

I am working as a student casual assistant at UNSW Galleries through my studies at UNSW Art & Design. I mainly invigilate, act as security, set up events an exhibition openings, serve food and alcohol, assist gallery visitors and provide information on exhibitions/artworks/artists on request.
I am learning about the art industry and behind-the-scenes of an art gallery and potential job roles, whole meeting new people who can become great and useful contacts, etc etc. Great experience for Art Theory and Fine Arts students. The job is easy and interesting and the staff are friendly. Need an RSA Certificate, great personal presentation and confidence.

Like all jobs in this current climate, you will be at times overworked, underpaid and under appreciated, so make sure you love what you do. The salaries at this university are below average in creative fields, however the benefits are high like all universities. 
It is a university, so the culture is a little like being in school, and superiors will treat you that way.
They adhere very strictly to the letter of the law as a university is a government body. 
The best part of this job is the working conditions are more laid back in general, the offices are air-conditioned, the holidays are in excess of standard as is the superannuation.

Start at 6am and reads emails and archibus before you start your day with an Inspection with the Cleaner Contractors.
Then during the day back in the office checking emails/client requests/archibus and finish at 2pm.

We have a good team at the UNSW General Service we all get along and everyone has there own Position within the General Service Department.

There are no hard parts for me doing this job at all.

You have your routine day from Monday - Friday and early morning starts and making sure you are always on top of your job and finding ways to always improve in your job.

This is a terrible place to work. The good people are pushed out and the bad people give themselves pay rises for doing less and offloading work to others.

It's no surprise there's no overview when senior management is in on it. Managers somehow arranged to "work" from home for roles that requires servicing the rest of the organisation. What's the incentive to enact change when they have a cushy job sitting on their laurels pushing papers? Where is the independent oversight?

It's ironic that a place that's supposed to promote equal opportunity is itself so unequal.

I worked at UNSW for 3 months. This was a casual temporary role. The interview process was difficult and multiple candidates applied, however many positions were available. The classes were provided with ppts but teachers needed to plug their own laptops into projects and change rooms quickly between classes. The management is well equipped but they are dealing with a huge number of teachers and students. The marking process for assessments was complicated and we received little training. Our lessons were observed and we were given feedback. 

The job is very fluid and we are expected to use our ac-crewed knowledge and experience in Mechanical trades and industry to try and support and formulate ideas and design for researchers and post docs. We also manufacture jobs for student projects and thesis works which again take a lot of input from our side to try and flesh out what the student wants, as their experience is generally lackluster.

We also are in charge of the workings of the mechanical laboratory's in terms of preparing for any new initiatives seminars or functions taking place.

● Served as the first point of contact for clients (students, faculty and employers) regarding career development workshops and website advertisements.
● Researched an extensive list of solar energy companies to provide detailed information about internships, training and career opportunities to undergraduate engineering students.
● Prioritized multiple tasks to ensure each task was completed by its deadline.
● Collaborated with other interns in developing a “Survey Monkey” questionnaire in order to assess the strengths and weaknesses of the Professional Development (PD) program.

excellent academic environment advances research and literature survey skills in a resepectful manner multicultural etc highly uplifting only wish there was a more significant sense of belonging to the School or Faculty as a group as there are group gatherings only available about once a year and this is not enough apart from that everything wonderful and also a nice and pleasant location and excellent teachers and supervisors
