In the short time as an Employment Consultant I was granted the ability to gain an extensive amount of experience in the industry.  My role included a high amount of administration duties such as being first call of contact, answering telephones, typing file notes, redirecting calls, assisting clients and employers with any issues via phone or email, filing, mail etc. I redesigned all hard copy files to electronic based files, making them easily accessible to staff, management and any other relevant key stake holders.  I also had a case load of clients and a small case load of outreach clients to assist with overcoming barriers to employment, marketing and reverse marketing potential employers, assisting with any requirements to start employment and supporting the client and employer when employment started.

The most enjoyable part of my job is watching the children become better people and gaining trust and self esteem. I have learned more about dealing with confrontation and strategic techniques. The management is great and the hardest part of the job is making sure that everything that happens is in the interest of the children. And making correct and accurate decisions. The workplace culture is respected for staff and the youths. Management are professional and do their best to accommodate everyone in the business. A typical day at work is to make sure the young people are taken care of physically mentally and spiritually. Our job is to help youth who have been through hardships start again on the right track and learn new ways to grow. The children are our main priority and every day makes a difference

I loved my job at UCC. I was at a day respite centre. Some of the staff were very lazy and unprofessional, leaving most of the workload for colleagues. My manager was a passionate and driven woman with a strong sense of social justice for people with disabilities. As a result, she didn't tolerate staff who were lazy, or didn't empower the clients and help them to live their best lives, I was the same. These things were addressed regularly and she would always give staff an opportunity to raise any issues or concerns face to face. Some of them preferred to go behind her back and complain to upper management about her. Our centre was often forgotten about by upper management and our manager was often left out of the loop on new developments and received little support.

The management are too quick to blame the workers for problems created by the youths or disabled people. Workers are often working overtime to fill in paperwork for no extra pay due to incidents at work which is beyond the control of the workers. Parents of the disabled clients are always denying responsibility for their son/daughter's behavioural  problems & try to blame the workers while the management always take the side of the parents. Inconsistent with household policies across all the residences in the same city. Youths allowed to get away with too much abuse of workers, property & other clients.

My role entails meeting the daily needs of Young People under the Protection of Child Safety.  Each day is a different day for learning how to productively work with Young People wth complex to extreme behaviours.  Management are supportive of the whole team, who work collaboratively along side each worker to produce the best outcomes.  A hard day is when we are unable to fulfill the needs of the young people, with the most enjoyable being when we see the young person benefiting from the program.

The "typical" day varies, which is great as I feel that repetition leads to boredom.
Management are very approachable and are always there to offer help, suggestions and advice if needed.
My co-workers all have a great rapport and support each other when needed.
The hardest part of the job is the once a month team meetings. But they are a necessity and have to be held.
The most enjoyable part of the day is when a Client accomplishes a task or activity.

Mandatory Training  - This is the only thing I can think off

Driving in remote areas to get to communities for support requirements

Not good the pay is not the best if you are a basic worker,

A typical day's work is always fun.
Learn how to understand the people with disability's language
Management was great as they listen to the workers
Learning new things and appreciate every diversity
When no one turn up for their shift and you have to cope a double shift.
Love working and making someone smile is the best part of my job.
