Everyday, you go in to check the DWS to know what tasks you'll be doing for the day. You also need to write down the sales and top 5 best selling items from the previous day, which you may be asked to repeat during the team talk. Sometimes you'll be asked to repeat Uniqlo's "6 standard phrases". 

During team talk, the manager was almost always in a bad mood, and constantly criticising us for poor time management (not meeting up for team talk on time). You'll need a watch as the only clock was in the break room. Personally, team talks was my least favourite part of the job.

Expectations are very high, and sometimes you'll be tested on knowledge (e.g. how many jeans do you stack in one pile, etc.). You also need to memorise where everything is located - this is difficult because there are lay-out changes that are frequent (new items or items not selling enough and not enough room on fixture).

There is some favouritism that appears to be apparent, particularly with female employees. Most of the team leaders were female, and certain tasks (dispose rubbish) are only given to male employees.

Certain casual employees were given more hours than others. Despite my 24/7 availability, for 2 weeks in my 3 month contract, I was scheduled to have no shifts - I only managed to receive 3 shifts in those two weeks as I was close to the admin.

Hardest part of the job was hitting certain targets they had. They were very adamant about "replenishing 6 boxes per hour", which was impractical, depending on what division you were given. The manager stated that if you were to fail to reach that target, you had to give a reason as to why. Also, you need to have your own Stanley knife for replenishment.

At the end of certain tasks, you'll be required to wait for someone else to take over, so you need to know who will be taking over sales floor & self-check out and to word in through the walkie that you'll be taking your break and stating "X is taking over Y". Some people show up late, and you can end up with a shorter break as a result.

Workhours are inconsistent (start as early as 7.30am, finish as late as 10pm). Sometimes your break will be scheduled just one hour into your shift. 

Favourite part was the people I worked with, except for a quarter of the team leaders. I did learn a few skills here and there, although not applicable to everyday life, it was nice to learn.

A fellow co-worker of mine working full-time had told me that he was upset with a few incidents. One, that he had to wait an entire hour to use his staff discount because "staff was busy", and two, he received a warning for taking his break half an hour early when he had accidentally misread the timetable, a mistake he made once in 3 months. He also said that the pay is just not worth it, and is looking for a new job. He felt treatment was "dehumanising".

To further sour my experience with the company, I had asked for an employment separation certificate from both my manager and HR, neither of them ever replied to my email. The old admin also failed to help me get the tax-free threshold until I mentioned it a second time to manager.

Overall, the worst part was management and how strict everything was. The pay does not justify the amount of work you had to do. If you're studying and want to work casual, you will at least gain work experience. If you're looking for a full-time job, stay away from Uniqlo.


My experience with UNIQLO has been marred by extremely disappointing training sessions and unprofessional behavior from the trainers. From the onset, it was evident that the training program was severely lacking in both effectiveness and respect for new hires.

The training sessions were conducted in a manner that felt more like a lecture on theory rather than practical, hands-on learning. Instead of providing meaningful insights into the workings of the company and its processes, the trainers simply inundated us with a barrage of information, expecting us to remember everything and perform like seasoned professionals within a mere 2 to 3 days of starting the job.

Moreover, the trainers displayed a blatant disregard for the individual needs and learning styles of the trainees. There was little to no effort made to engage us or make the training sessions interactive and engaging. Instead, we were subjected to monotonous presentations and dry recitations of company policies, leaving us feeling disengaged and uninspired.

What's even more disheartening is the lack of support and guidance provided to new hires during the training period. Instead of fostering a supportive learning environment, the trainers adopted a condescending attitude, making us feel incompetent and undervalued. It was evident that they had little patience for questions or concerns raised by trainees, dismissing them with curt responses and thinly veiled frustration.

Overall, my experience with the training program at UNIQLO has been nothing short of a letdown. The company's approach to training new hires is outdated, ineffective, and fails to adequately prepare employees for the demands of their roles. Until UNIQLO addresses these glaring issues and invests in a more comprehensive and respectful training program, I would caution prospective employees to proceed with caution.

You begin the typical day by checking the DWS for your daily tasks and the previous day's sales statistics then you have a team talk where you pretend to care about how the store did. This concludes with everyone reciting 'six standard phrases' while maintaining 'standard posture' like it's some sort of a cult.

The daily tasks themselves are varied. They include greeter, sales floor, alteration, checkout, fitting room and stock replenishment. Each has its pros and cons so it's really up to your personal preference.

The culture of the company is restrictive. During induction, they made it clear that unnatural hair colours and visible tattoos are a no-no. This was the first red flag. It doesn't get much better in-store either. The amount of work you're expected to do for minimum wage is quite honestly disgusting. There's an expected standard for everything, e.g. seven shirts folded in a minute or four boxes replenished in an hour. You're also expected to report to the floor leader every time you leave your station for whatever reason, including bathroom breaks. No second can be unaccounted for.

However, it's not the worst job to have as long as you don't exhaust yourself trying to appease others. This is easier if you're casual and not planning to stay long-term. Keep in mind that rosters for casuals don't get posted until very late into the week and are often delayed for whatever reason (yet they still expect you to give your availabilities up to a month in advance), giving you very little time to organise other commitments.

My advice if you work here or plan to work here is to have the right attitude, don't overwork yourself to meet their standards and always leave the second your shift ends.

At first, I was very happy and excited to work at UNIQLO. The job was fast-paced, and I enjoyed learning new things and taking on tasks without complaint.

Unfortunately, my experience with the store manager made things very difficult. As a new staff member, I asked questions when I wasn’t sure about certain tasks, but instead of guiding me, the manager often responded with “I don’t know” in an angry tone, as if I was disturbing her. This didn’t just happen once but multiple times, which left me feeling very down. After that, I felt like she started picking on me, complaining frequently about my work and even comparing me negatively to other staff, which felt unfair and biased.

Two weeks before my seasonal contract ended, I was told that if I didn’t improve, I wouldn’t be offered a permanent role. Even though I worked hard, accepted every tasks and improved by finishing every task as fast as possible, I was constantly met complaint by store manager. This made me feel anxious every-time I saw her on the floor, as if everything I did was wrong and wasn’t good enough. In the end, my contract was not extended to permanent staff without give clear explanation.
It’s disappointing because I gave my best effort, but the lack of support and the treatment from management left me stressed and unmotivated. 

UNIQLO is a great company with strong systems, but it’s a shame that such poor management behaviour is allowed at the store level.

Toxic workplace environment. Upper management looks down upon you and is generally very condescending in their criticism. They do not care about you as an individual and are highly hypocritical.

You are expected to stand and walk for very long periods of time. You must complete tasks in unrealistic and unreasonable time-frames and cannot be caught not moving for a single second.

You will be told off and criticised for talking to your fellow co-workers meanwhile higher management are sitting comfortably in their chairs talking to eachother in the back room.

Co-workers and leaders have a habit of gossiping and talking trash about others, creating a very negative working environment.

Work expectations are suffocating, the work itself is mind numbing and unstimulating. You might as well be working in a sweatshop in some third world country if you're on replenishment.

Weekly roster which often comes out very late during the week leaving you no time to prepare and make time for your other commitments.

Only redeeming factor would be your fellow co-workers who share in your pain and suffering while working here. Generally very chill and nice people who probably all expected better of UNIQLO but have come to understand how utterly dog it is to work here.

I had high expectations for the store since I liked their clothes but was truly disappointed since working here.

DO NOT WORK HERE if you value your sanity.


Working with Uniqlo is OK. You meet some friendly people and the customers that come in are generally well mannered/polite, hours are decent. But that's about it.. Management is shocking, especially in the Sydney stores, you will never get encouragement or positive feedback for the things you do well in, but if you make one mistake like leaving a coat hanger on the fixture while your serving 5 customers at once you will get your booty kicked. Management is extremely in-experienced and for most of them it is their first retail jobs and they are fresh out of university, which means they are very figures based and know nothing about different methods of customer services and how to manage staff properly and effectively. You will deal with a lot of micro management from supervisors who are also in-experienced and dumb whom will check on you every 5 minutes even when you are doing a simple task like cleaning a mirror even if you have a lot more experience than them in retail they will just keep coming back yelling at you and telling you things you already know.

The staff are very Cliquey so if you are not in with the cool kids who the managers favor forget about it, you will get treated like your right at the bottom and older staff members wont even acknowledge your existence. The stores have a high turnover so most of the people you meet will end up leaving a couple of weeks later anyway..

I started where a uniqlo when I was 17 years old is a very nice workplace with good pay for people my age you learn a lot of skills such as time management and being efficient because they push you to your own limits and they also help you understand right from wrong in your work so you can upgrade I’ve never really had any issues with people that I’ve worked with sometimes the managers can be a bit strict however I just say that that’s what they want for the company they have very high standards which is understandable for the company very demanding and fast pace job however it is enjoyable with the people that you are surrounded by the teach you skills such as what is necessary on the shop floor the most enjoyable part of the job is being around other members the hardest part of the job I would say is getting used to the changes of the shop floor because they and I’m still learning some of the management is a bit too much however there are a lot of different managers especially if you’re working on a larger store so you can get  to know them and whoever you find comfortable to talk to you can talk to them.

Work hard, work fast = work more
Lazy, slow = work less and get promotion

Promoting procedure is silly to grading poor quality ppl get promotion, lazy, no knowledge, lack of experience but good at pretending to be a professional with no brain.
Imagine working with poor teenager leader team who always ask you for help just because they dont know how to do it and you would get only silly solutions from them.
Big positions is really good at remembering policy but no critical thinking to adapt it in the real situation. They always stick with the policy.

Many policies, systems, rules, theories were created but not practical. Workers used too much cell memories to remember unnecessary info for their positions. The rules always change every week via email (weekly update) exp. how to submit annual leave procedure, how to ask for sick leave, how to line up in the morning meeting (need to be super straight line), clock-in and out time. These created toxic environment but management team never get it. 

I recommend this company to parents who wanna discipline children! This is not for adult or high experience ppl.

The job requires a lot of work ethic and mental endurance. There's always something to do and you would always be moving around. I wouldn't recommend this job for anyone who plans to take it easy. 

Expectations are always high and some tasks are unrealistic at first however working long-term, you'll be able to adapt. Co-workers were very helpful and kind (this can vary depending on which store). Managers sacrifice alot of their time for the store compared to any managers of past jobs I have seen. Higher up management outside are questionable and some don't even care about you and will discriminate. 

Your experience working at Uniqlo will depend on what type of person you are. If you are hard working and willing to learn, you will be offered more opportunities and different tasks throughout the day (showing they can depend on you). However, if you are lazy and not willing to be better, you get one task and you stick to it. People won't get along with you if you don't have good work ethic, so do your best. 

Working at Uniqlo can sometimes be good, but at most times it is very stressful and tiring. The flagship oxford street store is very busy, no time to rest or even have a moment to yourself. They would constantly change the layout of the shop floor every week or few weeks, without specifically telling the sales assistants where the changes have occurred, meaning we are travelling 5 floors up and down just trying to find where the stock is located. Sometimes trying to find items for the customers with the customers themselves. Some managers were very good and compassionate, however some were completely incompetent and expected you to do their work for them. Overtime was not compulsory, however if you haven't finished tidying up your section you were basically asked to finish it before you leave, which they only give you only 1 hour to get the shop floor back to very high standard, even after a very busy day and short-staffed. The other sales associates however are very nice and friendly, and are still good friends with people that still work there.
