Loved the job itself, did what was asked, and avoided the ire of management. 

Overall there is zero interest in improving workplace culture or how they operate - Management forever being restructured (I had five or six bosses in <4yrs), and congratulating themselves for nothing. Problematic individuals, who should've been sacked ten times over soldier on. Basic bus issues like cleaning and refuelling are not managed properly and cause operational headaches on a daily basis. Ongoing problems with anti-social behaviour on some trips brushed aside as only "a small minority of passengers". All of this puts a huge mental toll on the employee that is NEVER acknowledged; only reprimanded when the driver finally snaps and goes out sick or has an incident.
Leadership is very authoritarian, and this is reflected in the high turnover rates of all staff categories, which is acknowledged as a problem, but never rectified. 

Work-life balance for casuals varies wildly depending on how short-staffed the depot(s) are, and how flexible you are. If you prove yourself as a reliable worker, and not exceedingly picky about the shifts you want, you'll (generally) get enough work. Those allocating work do their best to keep the casuals working at a time of day that suits. 

Really the only thing that is good about Transdev Perth is the pay. Casuals are on about $10/hr more than the equivalent job anywhere else in Australia, and closer to $20/hr better than award rates. If you can ignore the rubbish, and keep your chin up, it's not too bad. 

I was hired on the cusp of 'Female Interjection", 2004/05 to increase the Genda equality. Training provided, then 'Buddy system' then out you go. Total 4-6 weeks.

Enjoyed meeting a plethora of cultures, ages and personalities, did not enjoy 'hostilities from 'homeless, street and troubled minded peoples.

Did not enjoy the idea, that at any time, anyone could be stabbed, bombed, spat on and abused physically, verbally, also mentally and I found having a cage was not the solution only that it exasperated the onslaught and isolated the loneliness further, creating a more heightened emotion of 'mental anguish' as there was no escape from the cab.

The idea that 'The driver' and ONLY the driver was fully responsible for 'every situation' whilst in the drivers seat, weighed heavily on shoulders and perpetuated the belief that something negative and untoward would happen and by thinking so, put into motion realism of accidents occurring. 

More relaxation Techniques need to be implemented and more Back-up provided. Being left out to dry alone without fellow co-workers and management not believing and wiping clean records so as to be rid of a 'ball breaker' was, so say the least, very sad. I felt very betrayed and forgotten about. I hope that my service was not in vain. Thank you for the gold star of customer service excellence 2016 and the 'kiss off' 

Transdev lost a real Diamond in the ruff

TransDev is a great place to work and the management is very supportive. It's the most supportive management I've had so far. They are great to work with and training is done well. The only issue would be that we live in 2023 and TransPerth (not necessarily the fault of TransDev) still forbids the use of GPS systems for the drivers. Therefore the main issue aside from ocassional troublesome passengers and the need for more TransPerth security staff and response cars, is drivers messing up the routes. Customers are obviously unhappy and it's mind baffling why we don't use GPS so everything just runs smoothly. Old staff know most routes, new staff or those less familiar with the roads would need to work hard to learn. Also and entirely due to the no-GPS issue, we need to work unpaid outside of standard work hours to prepare maps and directions for upcoming shifts. All of this would be solved by GPS use. Like how you'd use Google Maps or Waze in your car on your phone mounted to the car.

Workplace is overall great, pay is good, hours can be taxing - but it's mainly the unpaid map planning that can lead to drain.

Would still recommend, just know the roads or be prepared to spend a lot of time learning and planning.

A typical day is starting between 3-5am, complete a run from Coppabella to on site at Caval Ridge, stop for breakfast then attend a Pre Start meeting where daily changes to routes and roads are explained. Then stand down till next route, probably an airport pick up. Refuel the bus then attend afternoon job allocation and work schedule for the evening, finish afternoon run clean and tidy the bus then off to dinner and bed ready for the next day's activity. Spare time can be spent at the gym, studying or relaxing.  

Management do a good job given the conditions in which they work.

Co-workers, the mix of personalities can make for an enjoyable time.

Hardest part of the job, getting the body used to arising at different times nearly every second day.

you clock on at the depot then you make your way to a start point by foot,bus or train. start the run on the color on your run sheet then 40 to 50 minute break. Then start a the 2 part of your shift same as the start you may not finish at the depot. bus,train trip and finished with a short walk.

I have learn a lot myself as person dealing with the public, About driving large vehicles in city in confined spaces. The 2 weeks driving course is very intense.

You knew what you were doing shift wise up to 2 weeks in advance

A typical day at work as split shift was start early in the morning (about 5 or 6 am), drove about 4 hours, then have a break for 2 to 3 hours, then drove another 3-4 hours in the afternoon, 
Managers only talk to you when you have some problems.
The hardest part of the job was try to remember the new routes almost every 2 weeks which is very hard for new drivers.Still remember my first time route 370 back and forth 7 times in the afternoon, it was winter and gets dark after 5.30pm, up the mountain you can't see, you had to feel when to turn, it was pretty frightening.
The most enjoyable part of the job was during the break make jokes about the mistakes you made about driving with others.

I had the pleasure of working for Transdev Sydney. 

Senior Management in my opinion where very good to me . There are teams within Transdev Sydney that are really functional.There were just challenges within my own department and it just looked like I was invisible unless there was a problem. Then I started getting assigned elements of work that where not even on my job description- I guess this was covered by any other work clause. 

Overall I think Transdev Sydney is a good place to work if you are a driver or in the Environmental team. The other parts I am not so sure .

What is trained is not reality as a driver. Bus Stop Timings are really tight and management do not want to pay you for working extra time due to unrealistic bus times schedules and regular traffic causing delayed finishing times. The system should  pay overtime automatically when signing off, but instead you need to fill an overtime claim form when you work extra time resulting in management rejecting your overtime claim. During training you are told that it doesn't matter if you are late as this is the only driving job that pays you overtime if you are late. In reality, this is not the case.

Was good for a little while there, but now the bad far outweighs the good. Management make an already stressful job more stressful and thankless. Annual leave accumulates at 30 hours not what you work and despite working more than full-time hours constantly because the 30 hour contract is generally full-time hours to cut costs on hiring you as F/T. Pointlessness accumulating it anyway as annual leave is impossible to get and is always declined.

What once was one of the most sought after jobs in Sydney  is now a shadow of it's former self, Mistreatment of workers by incompetent management is a regular event, poor planning and an archaic  safety management means workers are put at risk on a daily basis. 

If it wasn't for the workers and their knowledge and understanding of the job at hand the place would fall apart.
