Toys R Us

I work mainly in the Babies Department but I do work on the general floor and night fill as well. The main job is to attend to our customers and make sure our re-shop and recovery is done by the day (making sure everything looks neat and that products aren't left on the floor or at registers). I always ask every customer if they need help with anything from finding products and giving information to creating and printing baby registries for expecting mothers. 

I had to learn a lot of new skills with this job especially in this department because I'm working with products that weren't just toys but also products that new parents would need to ensure they have an easy, safe and reliable experience with. 
- I needed to know how to use the baby registry computer first of all so that mothers/parents could have a database of the products that they wanted for their child. 
- I also had to build my knowledge of products especially how they work - eg. Prams, Boosters/Car Seats, Baby Monitors
- I learnt how to visual merchandise which is basically placing products in a way that looks appealing to the customers and looks presentable for the store overall
- I learnt how to do general store jobs such as stocking, unpacking, merchandising and customer service skills

In terms of management, everything has always been balanced overall. The only thing I'll ever complain about is that my shifts do get given to new recruits at times which I do feel is unfair however it happens sporadicly. We've always have great, friendly management, though, and I've always experienced great bonds with them. 

The co-workers are the best part about the store. They will always welcome everyone from the customers to recruits - there is always a sense of family at the store. 

The hardest part of the job would be attending to customers when everything gets busy and fast paced. However, the team is always there to help out and work together with this challenge which always makes things a bit easier.

The most enjoyable part of the job is having a supportive team and that they always make work worth coming to.

A typical day at Toys R Us is, going in 10 minutes early, clocking in then going out to the register. Some of the responsibilities that i have as a store/ admin associate are serving customers on registers, processing and finalising refunds, lay-bys, zip-pays, online orders, answering customer enquiries whether in store or on the phone, managing tills during open and close of the store, training new employees and cleaning. 

During my time there i have learnt exceptional customer service skills, how to manage my time efficiently, and to work well under pressure as well as grow my communication skills.

The culture of the workplace is exceptional because you grow a strong bond with the other employees and the management as well. The managers are outstanding as they are always there for their employees whether they are having troubles with a task at work or dealing with something personal in their everyday life. 

The hardest part of the job, or any job for that matter, is when you receive abusive customers, which is a minority of people. At Toys R Us, these customers visited the store more during Christmas season and recently when we began shutting down the stores. During these times, it is important to stay calm, help the customer if you can, get a manager and call security if necessary. 

The best part of the job is the environment and knowing you're going to a job where you can help customers and a company achieve sales goals. Helping the customers when they enquiry about something and helping them receive the goods is a great feeling when you see the smile on their faces and their child's as well. That in itself is rewarding and has to be the most enjoyable part of any job.

Began working here while I was in high school up until I finished university and began my career. I saw many changes occur within the company, from the company being publicly sued for underpaying young staff to then trying to reinvent itself. The positive aspect of the job would have to be the other staff you worked with. They made the job bearable, particularly during the busy Christmas period. There were many downsides though. One downside would definitely be management. Management was constantly changing which resulted in a lack of consistency with how things were run on a day to day basis. Many times the management also consisted of inexperienced people straight out of high school who had no formal qualifications or interpersonal and communication skills. Another downside (which I'm sure is a downside for many retail jobs) was the lack of staff that would be rostered to work. A typical day (even during christmas) would see three people working, with management chatting away in the office. The company suffered a lot of loss prevention which could have been avoidable had staff actually been rostered on to be on the registers and watch the doors. Overall, it was a memorable place to work but I'm not surprised it's not around anymore.

A typical day at work consisted of my manager instructing me on what to do and how to go about it in the best way. I would either stock shelves, put stock away, price and tag items, take phone call inquiries or work at the registers. I would learn something new everyday. Different skills and how to do a certain job in different ways. Management was nice and friendly, easy to talk to about anything job related. Co-workers are all bright and friendly people who are willing to lend a hand when needed. The hardest part of the job would have been only getting one four hour shift a week because too many people have been employed. So its hard when you need money to pay off a lot of things and have heaps of time to work but you're not getting harly any shifts. The most enjoyable part of the job would be working with co-workers instead of by yourself. The job gets done quicker and you enjoy what you do because your working together with your buddies.

Having the opportunity to work for a retail company over four years allowed me to build relationships with my coworkers that produced a fun and comfortable work environment. A lot of my coworkers were the same age as myself and this reflected into the workplace culture. Throughout the busy seasons, the story was quite chaotic and the priority was given to customer service. The hardest part of my job was juggling multiple customer requests in-store and via phone calls. However, this taught me to multitask and allowed me gain valuable customer service skills. The most enjoyable part of my job was being able to fulfil customer requests, get paid and work alongside friends. I gained many valuable skills from working at Toys R Us that will transfer into my future employment opportunities. The management team did a great job in ensuring the store operated well enough for customers to receive what they came for.

so.
i began as a christmas casual and all was good but as i aged my hours went down until i was working 2 hours a week on a monday after school.
just like almost every other casual employee we went to management to ask for more shifts but never got them
when exam time came i lost all my shifts so i got a second job and began education after high school i could only work late nights and weekends. so they took all my shifts away ( my one shift ) when i sent a text to my manager saying i cant continue. well that was march and i still havent heard back. the people i worked with were great and those who are still working there are the lucky ones that got trained in more than one area making them valuable 
i enjoyed my job but honestly. customers there have a habit of disrespecting the staff and management told us off for not being polite enough. i learnt to be as nice as possible to all servers after that because no one gets paid enough to be verbally abused by soccor mums every day. especially at minimum wage .

a typical day at Toys R Us was always the best. Being able to support the customers as well as having the best time with my work colleagues. I learnt that working doesn't have to be boring, you can have fun at work too! The management was very easy to get along with, and would always push to reach our stores goal. Co-workers are part of the reason for the jobs enjoyment, i had gotten along so well with everyone whom i had worked with. They had taught and helped me with anything i was unsure about without any problems. The hardest part of the job was seeing upset customers complain about the stock we no longer had on the shelves, and because the closest Toys R Us store was located in Brisbane, there was only a few willing to travel that far for the particular toy. The most enjoyable part of the job was waking up and not sighing. It would always be something to look forward to.

A typical day included, trolly collection, cleaning, restocking, customer service, Pricing, Answering phone calls etc. I learned that i was able to push on even when i was tired or not up to working, and had good team management skills and overall sales skills. my workplace culture was Multicultural and had many backgrounds from low- Economical backgrounds to high- Economical backgrounds, but as a team we all respected and appreciated everyone's doing and work. The hardest part of my job was, NOT, being able to provide/ give a customer the right product or information they came into the store for. The most enjoyable part of my job was the work culture, making new friends, problem solving and helping out customers efficiently and smartly.

Customer service was great. I had a problem with a toy that I purchased and they immediately rectified the issue. can't say enoug.I ordered for a baby shower and the address defaulted to the person having the babies house, this was after I put in my address. I noticed this right away so I tried to call customer service because you can’t change or cancel any order right after you place it. You get 45 minutes to contact them for a change so I tried to call. This was at 7 am, they said they were closed till 8 am. I called back after 8 like it said and was told they can’t help me and I only had 45 minutes. When I explained I tried she said I tried she basically said all well. When asked to cancel, you can’t do that either, and it’s not even 48 hour shipping. The lady on the phoWe got a 30 dollar off any mettle item at toys r us from mettel. When we went to the store, we were looking to buy a nabi tablet that ended up being out of stock. So then, the stor

I learned how to be a good customer service representative and i have an extremely high knowledge of toys and nursery products. i learnt basic skills and was able to use them in other jobs.

The hardest part of the job would of been juggling the old style registers. it was easy to make mistakes and required alot of concentration whilst battling with the ongoing noise of customers, babies and children.

The most enjoyable part of the job would be watching parents and children walk out of the store with a beaming smile on their face. A toy store should always be a happy place to be.
