The Optical Superstore

Working at The Optical Superstore was a very rewarding and challenging job but I loved every minute of it. The clientele were the most kind and generous I have ever experienced and they loved us right back. The boss' were incredible and very supportive, although I never met the franchise owner. Working with people's vision is a huge task and was not taken as light work. You constantly had to use you head and we made mistakes but in this industry that's one of the best ways to learn as you got to see first hand what you did wrong and the repercussions it caused. I was constantly learning new things each and every day.  

But,after being open for the first time in Mackay for eight months our manager decided to go overseas for six months leaving three inexperienced staff plus our very intelligent and helpful optometrist to run the store. We ran it for over a year and ran it better without the manager. once the boss returned from her holidays she stayed for about three weeks and then resigned. As soon as the new manager came in there was a huge conflict of interest between us and her about how the store has been run and was constantly running us down. In result myself and one other co-worker, the acting manager at the time, were basically forced into resignation from our positions.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Great colleagues, support from head office is good. Pleasant environment to work in, very little pressure. It is enjoyable going to work.


What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Nothing. Having come from a high stress corporate store with another company I can safely say working at the optical superstore  is for the most part, stress free. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very positive work environment and very good culture. Everyone gets along.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Reception and dispensing as well as store maintenance with some repairs and adjustments.

I enjoyed the job and meeting customers, unfortunately when staff are promoted to be store managers they seem to have no training or understanding of the rights of a casual in the workplace,in two stores that I worked in I was discriminated against hours were given to favourites even though I had been working at the store for longer. No understanding if you have a health issue. No chance of getting part or full time employment e

A typical day at work was filing away all of the appointments scheduled, making sure the stands were clean, free of dust and seeing to customer needs.

I learnt office requirements.

The manager was always willing to help if I found myself stuck.

As an optical store I can't say for certain what the work culture was.

Learning the differences between the types of glasses available was the hardest part of the job.

The easiest part of this job was greeting customers and filing.

o	Developed social media posts for multiple platforms including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter 
o	Created content with a strong call-to-action for different marketing strategies
o	Conduced research on social media effectiveness in consultation with offline traditional mediums. 
o	Analysis and tracking of Google Analytics data and AdWords - PPC 
Coordinated teams and timing for smooth rollout of campaigns

They dont care about your needs or your mental health. They have favourite staff members, the rest are treated very unfairly. They don't listen to problem solving techniques they don't take advice from educated professionals that they have hired to help. They walk all over the little people yo get what they want. Don't work for them. 

Best job I ever had. Optics are interesting and there’s the fashion element as well. No strict uniform rules and decent pay for a young person. Opportunities to become a dispenser and travel to other states to cover for employees of holiday. Lovely people to work with as well.

I would have to answer the phones and book in appointments.
I learned a lot about optics.
The other staff members and optometrists were easy to work with.
The hardest part if the job was trying to complete all my tasks by the end of the day.

The company had too many bosses, no proper management, backward processes (still used paper filing), way too competitive, was questioned about taking leave (as a casual) and shamed for taking leave, understaffed during busy period, overstaffed when quiet.

The people who work there are amazing and easy to get along with. It is amazing and i am privileged to be able to work at this amazing company. Defiantly could be apart of the optical super store forever
