The Fundraising People

In 2016, a young guy coming off a very rocky couple of years was looking for a job on gumtree. 

He had dropped out of school and been dealing with some confronting home issues for a while. When he got the call to come and be a face to face fundraiser, he was nothing short of overjoyed. 

He quickly learnt that only a very specific, very strong personality type would be able to really deliver in such a dynamic role. He just wasn't ready for that. He handed in his kit, tail between his legs, and wandered off into the hopelessness that he had come to get used to. 

That's why he was stunned when he got a call from the then manager of the call centre , asking him if he wanted to give it a crack. 

Him? A just-eighteen highschool dropout? Working in an office with adults when he could barely work in his own head? It seemed too good to be true. 

For 1 or so years, he experienced something that he soon learned was incredibly authentic. 

That kid was me. The Fundraising People threw me a lifeline when I needed it most and they didn't even know it. Self-consciousness gradually evolved into self belief.

They cared about me on a scale I couldn't truly see at the time. TFP is a team of carefully selected people who all, yes, all, have hearts of absolute gold. I found love here, i found friends here, but most importantly, I found myself here. 

TFP is a second home for it's employees. I have not since experienced a management team engage so enthusiastically with the self-development of it's employees. That's what I experienced, anyway. 

The love and the lessons that were given to me at this company were so much more valuable than any paycheck I have ever recieved in my life. They had no obligation to do anything other than pay me to do a job. They did so much more.

TFP is the reason I am where I am. Without realising it fully, they totally and utterly changed my life. Here I learned the skills, both interpersonal and professional, that will carry me through my life as a working man.

I think about TFP every single day. It was the most valuable experience of my life, which has been infinitely better since my first day at TFP. 

Everyone is going to have different experiences. But please, before you point any fingers at this company because maybe the work was hard, the days were long and it was just a really different kind of thing, please just know that as someone who sat and watched the management team in their element, these people are GOOD. Inherently, unequivocally good, by the very definition of the word, and they strive to be exactly that every single day. 

I'll remember them always. Thankyou. And sorry for always playing gangster rap on the Sonos 😂

This is not a respectable job, you must have a fake friendly persona that is able to annoy and guilt trip people into supporting your charities. You must hang around in busy areas like shopping centers or train stations and have people sign up to support your charity in the long term. It's described as a 9 - 5 job, but you will probably have to spend a lot longer working with no over time or extra pay. 

You have to sign up at least 10 people a day to support your charity, or you're fired.  You are in no way asking for one off donations. You must be signing up people to donate in the long term, like donating $30 a month for a year. 

Most people will either just ignore you or tell you to go away when you ask them to help your charity. You must go out of your way to ruin stranger's days asking them to donate to your charity, so expect many rejections. 

The pay for new fundraisers is $24 but you will get paid for 6 hours of work. 

This isn't a real job, and you can always do better because working for The Fundraising People is in no way honest.

The Fundraising People is a really amazing place to work. There's no place like it! First and foremost, there is an amazing company culture and a community made up of the most incredible people. Everyone here is so friendly, down to earth  and genuinely cares about one another. 

It's great to be apart of a company with such strong values and with a management that really cares about the individual workers. There is so much room for growth, personal development and career progression. Not only that, but there is so much support and flexibility offered to help you get to where you want to go! You won't find a more supportive, kind environment to work in. 

Working with TFP gives you:

Expected to change site on a daily basis, usually finding out where the next location would be 8pm the night before...

Usual fundraising job - stop someone, pitch, possibly get rejected or get a sign up.

In terms of the company itself...

- extremely unrealistic targets
- So much pressure on the spot all day, having your team leader over over head and watch your every move. 
- Not paid for 2 hours (as we are meant to get a 2 hour break, but NEVER EVER DID)
- Constantly told to stay back overtime - not asked but expected.
- Saw all my team mates fired.

I font know how companies like this get away with free labor and exploiting backpackers (from an Aussie)

If you want practice communication skills face to face this is a great opportunity. Work culture has inspirational seminars to get you to your full potential mindset whilst the job. It is sales but you will be doing it for a great cause for organisations for example the cancer council. You will not be working in an office environment but at designated areas mainly the train station or shopping malls.

TFP is committed to each employee's progression. I personally have been given the chance to develop my own role into something I really enjoy, and I know there's no limits to an employee's potential within the company if they show their dedication. 
There's a great atmosphere at work every day and we all get together at least once a week to share our goals and successes - it's very motivating and rewarding.

Amazing multicultural group. The job is demanding and expectations are unrealistic.
It is a new challenge if you've never done something like this before (fundraising face to face). 
They offer the opportunity to grow, a career advancement and the chance to move to another location within Australia or NZ

I've never felt more welcomed or appreciated in a job. So glad I joined TFP, they are such an awesome family to have. If there's a hurdle, everyone knuckles down to figure out how to jump over it. I've met a ton of people and found out so many incredible things about the world around me. Can't believe I landed such an amazing job, I would highly recommend working here to anyone who wants to expand their experience of the world. 10/10 :)

I was working with a few girls and they were really mean. Especially my team leader. She would snap her fingers for all the girls to do as she says, like go fetch her food. But since I was the only one not bowing down to her the rest of the girls would isolate me and gang up on me with my team leader to make fun of me.

The training is practically non existent. Office personnel will tell you to do it one way and every manager in the field says something different. If you cannot close at least one long term donation within the forst three days then prepare to be let go. Ot doesn’t matter that you’re trying to figure out the ropes, you’re replaceable.
