I worked for this company for 30 years and saw so much bias and corruption within work groups that it was not funny

Dealing with managers that had been moved sideways within the organisation but never had a clue about their new role and staff that were experienced in their duties

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Once again it’s had to explain with the work group I was in

As I carried out several roles at Telecom the variance was great with new challanges each day.  Management guided me through the learning process which helped me with my advancement through the company.  Management and your fellow workmates were supportive at all times.

Cant say there were any hard parts of the job as training and support were provided at each stage.

The most enjoyable part of the job was the recognition given when you achived the goals set.

I worked in a pool of typists who were responsible for the daily correspondence for the Geelong area managers.  I also performed clerical and reception duties.  I learned about telecommunications, exchange management and secretarial skills.  I had a good relationship with my co-workers.  The most enjoyable part of my job was the people I worked with and the hardest part was leaving when Telecom went through their national downsizing.

I started my working life in the PMG. They taught me much & I self taught myself much due to the culture of the environment. I took 2 years out of my tenure with the PMG to take up a secondment to the  Telecommunications company of PNG where i was engaged in training the local technicians. I returned to Telecom & spent 5 years studying part time a Associate Diploma of Electronics which then qualified me to be a Team Leader which I did for 1 year. I then took up my role with Email.

Great employer in the 80's and early 90's. Then restructuring with new professional managers with no relevant technical background that did not understand the business and got sick of fixing or coping with their poor decisions.

I appreciated the management offering me the work as it helped with my confidence and also I learnt new office skills.  Felllow employees were very helpful in guiding me with regards to office equipment and the structure of the office.

It is no longer the right place to work if you are willing to learn, 40 years ago it was totally different, they mainly use contractors now, speaking from experience the contractors are not worth their salt.

I totally loved this job and enjoyed everyday unfortunately the division was going to one place so people were getting redundant this is where OPTUS was becoming telecom rivalries and telecom with private

My work was very diverse over the years I worked there. Mostly everybody was easy to get along with, loved my final job in personnel before the office closed.

Assisting the management team in finalising contracts to be paid.
Co-ordinate the Security Operations of the Division including programming access cards, and any fit-outs in progress.
