I worked for TV Direct for nine months and is probably one of the better places I ever will work. The workplaces encourages good humour with co-workers and customers which made it a genuinely fun place to be on most days. The owners are good people who are actively trying to make their business a better place for all their staff and customers and maintained strong relationships with their staff. 

Work was customer focussed though I had a number of other responsibilities. Primarily I would interact with customers with the intention of making sales targets however I would also try to ensure that we maintained a strong rapport with the customers and provided a positive experience. I was also responsible for opening and closing the store several times a week, banking and handling money, merchandising (though I admit this wasn't my strongest skill), sending away weekly sales reports and providing some training to new employees.As I had never done most of these things before I joined, these were all new lessons for me and invaluable ones at that.

The hardest part of the job would probably be sales. Despite my enthusiasm for talking to customers, making a sale is difficult for me. I myself didn't receive any formal training when I joined which made the initial weeks and months difficult as I had to either teach myself or learn on the go. I expect they have changed these practices now though. 

The best part of working there would be the relationships I had with the people. The store I worked at (and was in all essence the assistant manager of by the end) had a small number of employees at any given time. So I became close to many of them and they made work feel a little less like actual work. My relationships with the manager and owners was equally positive. The owners are interesting and friendly people by nature, and they were willing to entertain the unusual thoughts and ideas I would come up with. They were never far away from a laugh when I worked there.

I was with this store since the day it opened. At first, it was a great company to work for. But as they started expanding, they got greedier and cared less about existing stores.
No career advancement possible, didn't care to train staff. 
Very little job security, we moved 3 times with little notice and never knew if we were to stay actually stay open.
Area management and owners couldn't even follow their own dodgy in store policies. We weren't allowed to give refunds unless authorised. So you give the customer a rubbish spiel about no refunds, only credit, only to have the higher ups undermine you anyway. So the staff are there looking like idiots for following rules they werel told to follow.
Also a tip, customers hate when the shop displays are constantly changed, don't tell us otherwise. 
Only good thing was the pay and the easy work.

A typical day of work consisted of product based selling that required a high level of customer service and product knowledge. I learnt a range of merchandising techniques that involved presentation and rotation of stock. My co-workers were all really friendly and easy going which made my job enjoyable. the hardest part of the job was making daily financial targets, especially if the store location was in a quiet arm of a shopping centre that had an inconsistent flow of customers. The most enjoyable part of the job was talking to customers, especially those who are easy going.

These people are ONLY interested in money, they don't treat staff as human beings, have had a  casual  fired for having the flu and being sick. If working the full day, only allowed 1/2 hour lunch, no 10 min breaks as was told by owner they don't do that here. Toilet break only allowed when lunch cover on, otherwise too bad. Expect staff to use own car for pick ups of stock, some staff get reimbursed others don't. Expect staff to come in early without pay and mop floors. Extremely stressful and verbally abusive to all staff.
Would not recommend to anyone.

You need a bubbly, positive and honest approach to your customer service, a opinion on a product is highly valued. 
A calm and caring demeaner is need when dealing with returns or exchanges. 
Must be ready at a notice with large volume at customer peak times. 
Cash handling

Fantastic Owners and Area Management teams, 8 x stores are only semi permanent, you can be without a job overnight, this has happened to myself and staff recently, with no alternative positions available within the company.

I enjoyed the job but was always wondering when the shop moved as she never stayed in one place for long, so no job security. boss ok but do not ring them for advice you will be told off

There’s always something to do with all the new and exciting products that came into the store. Staff and owners were always lovely, friendly and fun.
