Superdrug

In my two years at Superdrug, I have never seen such poor management. I had a total of 5 different store managers throughout this period and none of them were competent. 

For a bit of context, I was a 17 year old attending college on a 4 hour contract but actually put in an average of 30 hours a week. 

The last manager I had (the current one in the Exmouth branch) was a bully who regularly put staff down despite them going above and beyond for her. She rarely pulled her weight and was able to get away with doing the bare minimum because the area manager is scared of her. All staff were held to exceptionally high standards, except the manager herself

I was blackmailed by the manager into becoming a team leader/management, which I refused as my education needed to come first and I was already putting in more hours than I could handle. The manager ignored how important my education was and told me that if I did not take the position that she would no longer give me my 30 hours despite her knowing I would not be able to survive if she did this.

There is no regard for staff welfare and nothing to help staff who have on-going conditions. The manager would often belittle her staff on a daily basis for coming to her with their issue by comparing them to those of her disabled child and telling you that you should be thankful to not have to deal with what she does.

Superdrug is the worst employer I have ever worked for and doesn't give a f*** about their employees.

Please save yourself the stress and bullying, do not work for this company.

For the 4 years I worked at superdrug I found it to be enjoyable, the customers I worked with were very nice and genuine. The staff became my best friends and i enjoyed spending time with them, outside and during work hours. The only thing I would say about it, is for the hours I worked, I didn't gain a lot of benefits, I felt as though I was over-worked and under-paid. In the time I worked there I had 4 managers, and I felt that only one of my managers listened to my opinions and took them into consideration. The other 3 managers I worked for, didn't seem as if they cared about their employees, I had to discuss time and time again about my hours to my managers, and even though I had said to one of them on multiple occasions that I would not be able to start at 6.30am, they still insisted on putting me down for an early morning shift, and I struggled to get into work on those mornings as I don't drive so I would have to walk 30-40 minuets to work. Other than that I felt like it was a very good starter job, and to be a team leader for a year was a lot of fun and I did gain a lot of knowledge, especially managing a team.

A typical day at work consists of 5 star customer service with added focus between 11am-3p.m. (Prime time) I basically go on till and sell anything from mascara to the perfume's in fact I'm the fragrance specialist  Which I preform comfortably to targets every week.

What I've learned is how good I am at customer service and sales, I'm always being told by customers that they often come back just to see me, and one or two have said I've brightened up their day. 

Management is ok, a little slacking with the wages sometimes forgetting hours you have worked. the co workers are fine relaxed and good sense of humor with the ability to switch to a more professional stance when needed.

The hardest part of the job Honestly is nothing, just the monotony of working and knowing your better then this. 

The most enjoyable part the job would have to be Customer interaction without a shadow of a doubt, or that satisfied feeling you get when you smash your targets daily/weekly/monthly

I am currently a store manager of Superdrug in Ringwood, i have been since January 2013. I have a team of 10 staff. Most days there 3 people in myself and 2 others. I have completed NVQ in retail, team leading also i have completed a trainee management program where i gained knowledge about HR, leadership, Profit and Loss, KPI's. Since being in Ringwood i have successfully lowered shrinkage, i am currently beating sales against Budget, had two great mystery shop reports and improved customer service in general in store. I enjoy the challenge of fast paced retail business as well as working with a team, as i can share our success and also turn any negatives in positives. 
I am currently looking for a fresh challenge closer to home.

Working at Superdrug was enjoyable. When I first started they taught me where everything was and from then I got the hang of things and i started to talk to customers and helping them find the desirable product/item for them.
Everyday was a new day, and I learnt about they run their store, such as their customer service, merchandising the store and also how to restock and reprice items. 
I would say that the hardest part of the job was balancing customers, and talking to them and also supervising the store at the same time so nothing was taken/stolen.
What I enjoyed the most was socializing with my colleagues and customers and seeing the customers happy when they leave the store.

A typical day at work in superdrug for me would be to go in and be in the make up aisle, I learned to be time efficient meaning ending up doing a lot of things in the time given and finish off my duties that have being given by me, also to provide customers with excellent customer service, this has taught me how to approach different types customers as everyone is different. I got on really well with my co workers they were really friendly and helpful. the most enjoyable part will definitely be helping customers out to find a suitable product for them as this means im interacting with them and i love meeting new people and making them happy.

Part time jobs usually from 4 - 12 hours.

Working as part of a team, made it easier to open and close up the store, and clean too.
Learnt that I am capable of moving up in position, as I had an offer to train to become team leader.
Very fun job, if you want it to be.

Filling stocks and serving customers, is all part of the sales advisor training.

Overall a good experience, and would be open to go back in the future!

i worked here for work experience so even though i didnt get paid, i was able to learn valuable skills that helped me in the future. it greatly helped me with my confidence and i had to help customers with their enquiries. 
I was required to come in in the mornings and open the deliveries and stack the shelves. I was so required to make sure the shelves were clean and everything was neat and tidy. The manager was nice and helped me quite a lot. 
The workplace culture was really pleasant, everyone would get along and have fun. There wasnt any problems.

Providing very good customer service 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
A lot of external  thefts going on daily basis. You also needs to deal with violence. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Everyone working together as a team. Everyone being respectful and supportive to each other. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Working in shop floor and filling up  stock from delivery.  Also work in till and warehouse.

when i began working here i was happy and enjoyed my job because i knew the store and knew the products within it. now strike rates have become a major factor of the working day, it has become stressful and an unhappy place to work
