Supercheap Auto

Used to be a great place to work. We had a good team and management was pretty good. 
But they have since hired mindless yes men and women. No one has any experience other than what they are taught and management brownnoses to whoever is highest up the food chain. 
There is no work life balance. You are required when you are required. Your family doesn't matter to the company. You are just a number. 
Management doesn't do anything but pester you while neglecting their own jobs and just randomly leaving. 
The team has a few good members that fell through the cracks of each hiring lot. We usually get one good team member for each 5 new people. 
Turn over is very high, there is no possibility of advancement of salary or position. 
You are constantly required to make sacrifices in your life for the company. Including but not limited to: family time, medical appointments and the opportunity to find something better. 
If you are sick, you are better off just going in, you won't be paid other wise. Regardless of leave entitlements. 

They have passion as one of their main points. But it's not passion for automotive or passion for customer service. It's passion to make more money for them. 
If you have a genuine passion for cars I would not work here. Your knowledge is valuable. But not to this company. They will pay you minimum wage and expect you to be grateful. 

Steer clear of this place. 
Other than the discount there is absolutely no benefits to working here

A typical day is starting by picking and bagging all online orders and preparing the store for customers to arrive. After about 9, another Team member comes in and you can begin doing services, such as changing wipers, some globes and various other ones (all paid). You learn very quickly what globes and wipers different cars need and can confidently say when a product is right for the customer. Workplace culture is fairly relaxed, there's no intense pressure to outperform everyone else and everyone is easy to with. Management is certainly the company's downfall, a bunch of people in a boardroom that make decisions that impact people they've never spoken to. They seem to make decisions that make our job harder or more inconvenient. 
One of the hardest part of the job is dealing with vendors and customers with our Special Order items. Quite often, the vendors make us jump through hoops and don't communicate with us. 
Easily the most enjoyable part is making it super for our customers. Seeing them leave with a smile and truly being satisfied with their service today is amazing. Also that staff discount goes hard on a lot of items

Some highlights from my time at Supercheap:

-Manager responded to my request to finish an hour earlier on Tuesdays and Thursdays by giving me dirty looks all day and cutting my hours back to pretty much nothing. Would proclaim "tHiS iS a SeVeN dAy BuSiNeSs" meanwhile I can count on one hand the number of times I saw them come in on the weekend. 
-That same Manager decided I was taking too much leave, so she informed me that she was not going to approve any more leave from now until the end of eternity (as you can tell, very mature adult)
-Training completely stalled, and I was not signed off to change bulbs or wipers after 6 months of being there. 
-On my last shift, I was screamed at by an elderly couple over brake pads. Several senior team members were watching and listening and did nothing to help. And did not step in and intervene or help me in any way. Only when I finally had enough and told them to leave (in a very vulgar manner) did my co-workers jump up and step in. 
-the pay was awful. Nowhere near enough for the things we all endured.

In the beginning it was a fun place to work, not too stressful repetition and understanding your role was easy, but since Covid the support and care from the head office has gone completely, you are underpaid and always stressful with constant deadlines make the job very dissatisfying and they push to make sure you are committed to them, without reciprocating that commitment, they will easily get rid of you once you don’t fit their needs and expectations which are ever increasing and love to work on minimum staff, even when forecasting expects increases, you will be expected to get by without any extra help, do not recommend, barely any chance to move yourself up as promotion stream is very narrow

Store had poor management, staff leave constantly before completing training which they don't offer any meaningful training either.
Team was good that was the only saving grace, but towards the end everyone was just depressed all of the time due to unreasonable expectations and even when you are told you've done something right it's always but you could have done this better.
Double standards were always a problem as well, manager gets to do things and break safety rules while staff are berated often in front of customers unprofessionally.
The only reason the manger gets their job done is they arrive hours before they are rostered to get stuff they expect lower managemt to get done within normal hours.

Overall not a place I'd recommend anyone I care about to work. It is not worth the stress and drain on your mental health. The other stores are run much better with nicer management from what I've seen working at other locations occasionally.

My time at SCA has been rough to say the least.
I have worked at a variety of different stores and can say with certainty your experience will depend entirely on the store you land in, and the management that surrounds it. 
I have been here for almost 2yrs and my training has completely halted, I have requested training many times but never received any more. I have been put in a supervisory role only when convenient for the company then immediately removed, this has happened several times. Whenever a role is needed to be filled, people outside the company are hired instead of training and promoting team.
The area managers chase KPI's, they do not care about team members regardless of what they say.
Best part is the discounts, but you can just price match online things anyway which are always cheaper.

I worked there through my teen years and could not fault the company. Excellent place to work. I then left had kids and came back. It was an extremely different environment. The company was to busy pushing products on people and not being helpful. Telling people to go down isles instead of showing them. I had a manager who cut my hours to 3 hours a month because I dyed my hair red. when I left i got a government job with the same hair colour. My hair was always neat and tidy but her was unbrushed and messy. When I put in a formal complaint it went no where. I was promised hours and then did not receive the hours. The managers were run off their feet and had unrealistic expectations. The team I worked with was the only reason I stayed so long. 

For young people this job is great with older/more experienced staff members really helpful in wanting you to succeed and learn more on the job, and just happy to help!

I have worked across a total of 4 store locations, and the work life definitely changes depending on the location and staff. Some stores are great, others not so much. That falls down to the way staff are trained unfortunately, but overall Supercheap is a pretty ok company to work for :)

If you’re looking to expand your knowledge on cars, motorbikes, retail, paint, tools, etc, or like me and had 0 knowledge, this is a pretty good place to start. Helpful staff, and most customers are friendly and helpful, and also like passing on information they’ve picked up along the way too. Everything here is a learning process, and you continue to learn every shift

The good
- Staff is great to work with all great people.
- Good pay when you are actually given hours which is hardly.
- Good discount

The bad
- High staff turnover due to poor management.
- Shifts will be changed without you being told, you will then get in trouble for being late even though you were unaware.
- Won't train new staff, will then get mad when they mess up
- Expects you to do tasks without being signed off on training
- Store is understaffed, staff overwhelmed 
- Aren't looking for any more university students due to availability
- Don't respond well to staff pointing out issues in the store (hours cut)
- Separate rules for manager and staff 
- No opportunity for advancement without relocation

I went to work for Supercheap Auto and because of my great sales technique was stuck at the counter all day for many days selling their membership card. Other employees and management with jealous of my ability on the floor and therefore kept me off the floor so I was not able to help people as much as I'd like. I had spent six years at another automotive establishment and yet still had to prove myself and was not even allowed to fit windscreen wipers on a car as I had to do a stack of stupid online training to qualify me on paper for these menial tasks. Management another counter staff constantly leaning all over the counter and other people's vehicles was a great source of dissatisfaction for customers and myself, way too many lies and bull went on in this place .
