A reliable and good employer to work for.
When I had graduated I worked as a teacher for Essex County Council from 1977 until 1992.
The most enjoyable part of the job was working with people who I could relate well to, for example other staff, students and parents.
I learned how to deal with people of all ages and ethnicity on a regular basis and felt that I was successful at this.
Co-workers were great and working on the front line had the same desires and beliefs as myself.
Management in the good old days was good because these people were experienced teachers also.
Unfortunately education like the Health Service now has too many people in management who have not got enough genuine hands on experience.

Since joining the team here I have really enjoyed my role. My immediate team and wider colleagues within the department have all been welcoming and supportive. My probation period was well structured and helped me progress. SCC offers great training opportunities to advance your skills too and my manager is supportive of me doing training courses. I enjoy flexible working hours and the split between WFH/office is 2 days in the office and 3 from home which I find to be a good balance between the two. A difficult part of my job is that because it involves the public they can be quite distrustful of the council and council employees so you may have some difficult conversations if that's the kind of role you're going into and it's not something I had expected. 

My current role within SCC provides enormous job satisfaction. Each day brings new challenges and something new to learn.
One day each week is my 'duty' day. On this day I received any incoming complaints, either by telephone, email, online forms or by post.I will make the decision about how the complaint should be handled and process accordingly.
There is always something new to learn. I have a supportive and knowledgeable manager and also rely on my peer group for discussion about best practice.

I would seriously recommend considering before applying for a finance role with the Beacon House FIAS team in IPSWICH. The management treat you like a random resource e.g. a computer rather than a human being and an employee, with zero transparency and do not care about employee output or effort taken getting into the office. A fairly decent job and nice colleagues, however ultimately management always decides how well you’ll enjoy a job. Food for thought. Other Suffolk County Council teams are available though.


I feel thoroughly supported in my role.  I have been made to feel welcome, a part of the team and if ever I have any problems or anything I need help with there is always someone who will help me.  I thoroughly enjoy my job and the people who I work with, I feel I have a great and supportive team around me and there is further support in the surrounding organisation.  They go out of the way to stress the inclusivity and that we are a multi-cultured, gendered organisation.  I heartily recommend working here.

Being a carer is a very rewarding job, I have learned a lot over the years and done lots of training nvq level 2 management are not always fair. I love working alongside fellow care workers and equally alone,the hardest part about my job is the unsociable hours and the most enjoyable is the satisfaction of making an elderly person happy when you have cared for them.

Friendly and supportive managers and colleagues.  Great staff benefits.  Encourage flexible / hybrid working.  Generous leave for caring and parental responsibilities.  When in the office FREE tea and coffee and lots of charging points in the car park for my electric car!  On site canteen for very tasty and non-expensive food and drinks.  Overall I think Suffolk County Council is a great place to work. 

A valued employer. As a teacher the county was second to none in the support and opportunity it provided. The economic downturn in 2008 and previous budget cuts did however impact the quality of services provided by the counties education department.

In this role the main duties include sorting and pigeon holing mail for across Suffolk County Council. Sorting Library books for across the whole of Suffolk. Using bespoke systems and machines to assist with the packing and sending of payroll slips and pension statements to council workers across the county.
