Storage King

A typical day at storage king would be to open up the store and turn off the alarm system and do a site walk to make sure everything is as it should be. Once that is done i had to complete the daily processes which entailed emails, letters and notices to customer, then i would have to process payments from the direct debit account. I would have to sign customers up with a contract and show them their storage space. Once storage lockers were vacant it was my job to go around and clean them, we also had a moving van that customers could rent for a fee, they had to sign paperwork and sign off on any damage and pay a deposit. we had a store with boxes, tape and bubble wrap etc. that we had to sell to customers as well. at the end of the working day we had to do the banking and make sure it reconciled before leaving.
Whilst working at storage king i learnt various skills such as the following, banking, contracts, customer service, debtor calling, opening and closing the store.
The management was great, very easy to get a hold of if there was a problem and would come by the store regularly to check on performance.
The workplace culture was great if you had someone to work with but most of the time i was left by myself to manage the storage facility.
The hardest part about the job was being able to be in a few places at one time. for example a customer would have just been signed up for a contract, then another comes in wanting to buy boxes and then another wants to see what storage we have available, whilst your showing the customers that have signed up there would someone wanting to get into the showroom that you have had to lock to show the customer that signed up their storage locker and on top of all this you would get a phone call from customers enquiring about storage, so it was all very full on.
The most enjoyable aspect of the job would have been the progress i made in such a short amount of time.

I how ever did not receive any of that from the SKPA manager
Inadequate Training and support, extremely poor management, did not provide clear or realistic direction. Also gave terrible guidance & wrong Instruction. Unfortunately being teamed up with  A passive aggressive Store Manager/ Co Worker can ruin your career!


Communicative staff, passionate people who really believe in the mission and goals of the company. Good set up, systems and customer relationships. 

The challenges
Working in Storage King suits people who enjoy a high level of independence and autonomy, however, as the roles can be quite remote this could be a challenge for those that come from a large corporate or busy office environment.


A typical day at Storage King woould be managing clients accounts, fixing the bank reconcilliation, End of month preperation, going to meet and greets to promote the business, cleaning, cash handling and great customer service.
I learnt alot about administration roles as it was my first job in that sector.
The hardest part of the job i found was dealing with clients accounts that were in arreas.

Absolutely despicable place to work.
Toxic work culture which leads to there being no help when needed unless you are part of the "cool kids". It was like being at high school.

Such an easy job to do but the horrible culture ruins the whole thing.
Also just money hungry and care more about figures than any of their staff

Customers can be very nice but also others can be aggressive due to their personal circumstances- they can take it out on staff and support is poor 



I never had any feedback on how I’m doing, the management doesn’t engage with me (employees) mainly avoid me. 
unfair load of work, at least they provided good training I would say, So overall Good learning experience that’s all.

I enjoyed my time at SK, was Store Mgr and I enjoyed the culture of SK. Some days were really busy and over the top and other days quiet and relaxed so time to catch up. Company uniforms are poorly organized but the rest was awesome.

I have enjoyed most working for Storage king because it gave me an opportunity to liaise with all different types of people and nationalities. I have learned how to deal with difficult situations and also how to build a based clientele.

The bonus structure is ridiculous, the upper management micro manage everything while being very unsupportive. Would recommend it as a stepping stone but don't stay any longer than you need to.
