As a Corridor Supervisor, staff supervisor at the State Transit Authority of NSW a typical day involved managing an emergency situation and responding to injured passengers, bus drivers and other stakeholders in the Sydney CBD.
As the city inspector, my role was to ensure bus services operated and provided bus operators with road diversions through the Network Controller at the Network Control Centre and Transport Management Centre.
My roles enabled me to work with different levels of people, in dealing with problem-solving and decision making in achieving company goals.
The most enjoyable parts of my job where I could make the decisions needed to achieve quality outcomes in a dynamic and flexible environment.

Teamwork working environment with total collaboration from other stakeholders, My solid accounting and management skill set was learned at STA,  Lot of opportunity for staff to grow, Management ensure congenial work atmosphere, mentorship available to staff. Workplace culture is excellent and friendly. family friendly policies and working from home available to staff. Deadline based tasks in respect reporting to internal and external stakeholders and customers but with careful management and adhere to priorities and proper time management things get done. The best part of  working at STA is achievements are rewarded and acknowledged.

Don't work full time unless you have to or live near depot. Part time evenings are great. Sit in a seat push a few pedals and buttons and turn a wheel leave brain at home after 3 months u can do it blindfolded. Upper management are tards of course but immediate supervisors can be ok if ur lucky. Simple rule drive safe stick to timetable if possible and u cant go wrong. A lot of bullsh!t pushed by upper management to justify their jobs but if u grin and bear it or are a moron, or a conformist then you'll be ok. Other bus drivers are generally friendly but some are a bit thick in the head. No room for promotion as a driver unless you get into training or union programs.(must tow the party line)

multicultural, focus on providing the best customer service, reliable and safe public transport. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
arrive at work on time, fit and free of any drug or alcohol, operate an empty or fully loaded passenger bus, maintain on time running without compromising safety, work unsupervised making constant safe decisions to deliver the best journey to commuter customers.

Normal day: Start a 6am, Attend the leading hands office for the morning jobs which are small tasks to get the fleet on the road for the morning peak. Time management and teamwork is key to have the buses on the road by 7:30am. After that time staff go back to the buses that are left behind that takes more time to fix. Depends on the job, but some can takes hours or even days to complete. Safety is paramount to protect yourself and other staff around you with such heavy and dangerous equipment. If jobs become to hard to complete there are a number of services manuals around the depot to complete and do the job in a safe manner.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Achieving the goals of assisting bus operators to meet their timetable running times. Whether it be the Sydney traffic or bus breakdowns.

I always enjoyed going to work.

I worked for ~5 years as a bus driver. My driving and on-time running, all round service was excellent. I was dismissed on a technicality & endured various untrue and defamatory accusations from management through no fault of my own but rather on account of the shortcomings of management. Probably not a bad job for most but if you’re the type to stand up for yourself in a job like this you’ll end up miserable and under appreciated.

The job was easy,the majority of the people that worked in relation to the job were very good to work with. The drivers that had been there always mentioned that S.T.A. used to be the best job that you could have; due to the very generous Superannuation and working conditions; not to mention the free travel card; reason that many drivers left when S.T.A. went to private companies. 

My previous role as a bus operator was a very straightforward role. What I enjoyed was coming to work and at the end of the day going home and not worrying about any work-related matters. What I disliked was the lack of job satisfaction it gave me. I have to strive for something more in my life that will test me and keep me mentally active and focused and unfortunately this didn't do it.

Other than the above issue I had no problems with other aspects of work.

A day would start with signing on then checking the work on the sheet I was given and the routes I would be doing check the maps for route I had not done before, I learned to drive a bus including a bendy bus refuelling, cash handling and customer skills. The hardest part of the job was the traffic, the other drivers where really fun to be around and very helpful with new drivers. The most enjoyable part of the job was meeting people and driving.
