You will always come to work with a busy schedule ahead so I enjoy how the time flies when your completely preoccupied with your patients. 

The best skills I have acquired from being a nurse, have most definitely been communicating clearly with others, so there is absolutely no room for misunderstandings and being patient. I never use to be a patient person until I entered the industry. 

To be honest, I believe if more money was invested in public services it would could for better management of the institution. 

Living in a multicultural country you are subjected to interacting with multiple cultures and customs, so it was always an interesting experience to observe and learn how different people live their life. 

I can summaries the difficulties of this job into three sections. The first would most definitely be the long hours. There's only so much green tea and coffee you can drink until your body and mind crashes. 
The second is dealing with absolute buffoons! And I don't only mean patients who don't particularly have to be in the hospital to begin with but also some of the staff members! If I ever owned a private hospital, I would have extremely strict restrictions for persons applying for the roles to make sure not only that they are qualified! but fit, healthy, are willing to continue learning and are completely efficient with their tasks. Possibly able to speak two or more languages fluently! And of course a rise in pay is always a nice touch. 

The most rewarding aspect to being a nurse is just being able to care for others and watch some of them overcome their illness's. There's no better feeling than knowing you are contributing to someones well-being!

A typical day at work is focussed on the various facets of patient care with it's challenges associated with the complex needs of a variety of patient care. In addition it is essential to maintain strict protocols relating to communication and recording to ensure that the care that the patient receives maintains the same standard at all times regardless of which staff member is providing it.
I have learned a great deal about patient interaction and care and the need to maintain the high standards expected in this hospital
Management and staff work in a mutually co-operative manner to consistently meet the key performance indicators and we constantly strive to enhance the reputation of the hospital by providing a superior degree of patient care whilst maintaining budgets within acceptable levels
The hardest part of my current position is when a patient that you have cared for sometimes for long periods dies. Although accepting that mortality is inevitable it is difficult as you care for each patient to see them die at times a painful death.
The most enjoyable part of the job is to see a patient get better and be able to return home to their friends and families.

St Vincent's Correctional Health is severely understaffed, poorly managed and lacks support. St Vincent's have overstated the services they can provide for the amount of money they're willing to spend. Patients at St Vincent's Correctional Health are not able to access health services, not recieving their medications (such as antipsychotic medication / HIV medication / Depot injections). Many patients have stated that they are only able to access support once they have involved the Ombudsman. Written complaints have been thrown in the bin and are typically not followed up.

St Vincent's Correctional Health has an extremely poor attitude towards cultural sensitivity.

Management have stated in team meetings that doctors are "lazy" and "not very good". 

In terms of pay, you are better off working for Justice Health - at least you will receive an environmental allowance. 

The CEO of St Vincent's is a positive person and if you decide to work for this company please direct all issues to him as HR have been found actively lying about wages, leave and employee rights. (confirmed by HealthShare and HSU)

I worked at St Vincent’s Hosptial DPC for 4.5yrs and here is my honest review:

Outdated systems - since St Vincent’s Heath is affiliated, they have their own systems throughout the hospital.

High turnover of staff - 2022 saw many jobs not just DPC but in other areas of the ward.

Poor work culture and management - again related to high turnover including DPC management (5 times in 2 years). Current line management until I left in 2022 isn’t strong and unrealistic. Often nurses and admin staff to fend for themselves. 

Secondments offered during 3 times COVID lockdown - got some useful skills and successful in leaving DPC role. Didn't get the roles permanently was covering for despite going through formal process. First was infection prevention and staff health, second was the ED CSO role.  

Needs a talent pool for admin staff to backfill positions throughout the hosptial. This is why they cannot keep staff. 

If you intend to transfer over NSW health, only St Vincent’s Hosptial and Sacred Hear Hosptial are recognised in this system. 

Overall I do not recommend working in this hosptial and health network


This is my review of my experience working as an admin officer day procedure centre. 

I honestly did not like working there at all for the majority of the time, especially with the current manager before I left  who was unfairly recruited into and didn’t get interviewed for. 

Outdated systems too. Even though it’s expanded it’s too much of a challenge and chaotic to continue working there.

The manager was horrible to everyone when she came on board, including myself when she started. No support for growth 
High turnover rate of nursing and admin staff since the latest manger started.

Didn’t like the 6am stats either.

I was lucky to backfill several roles during covid though, which was a nice break.

Despite them selling the view of a great hosptial, I will not recommend working there and advice others the same 

St. Vincent Hospital is undoubtedly one of the best hospitals around Australia. And as it's reputation suggests, it is above par at the services it provide. I worked in department of food services and the stores. My experience so far is undoubtedly amazing. I had the privilege of working with people from various age groups and countries. Also due to the nature of the job we get to see the doctors and nurses and people from other departments working together. This in fact provides me with a greater sense of purpose for why i do this job. Cause it gives me a feeling of being in the same team as of the doctors and the nurses and others striving towards the same end goal i.e to render level best services to the vulnerable people and get them back to their best heath conditions.

Working as a Tech in St.Vincent's we were rotated about every six months to a different part of the pharmacy department such as outpatients, inpatients, pal care, clin trials or Hem and Onc. As you can imagine we got to learn alot and it kept things interesting experiencing the different areas.

It was a "biggish" department with about 45 staff members most of whom were very pleasant on the whole. Sometimes I did find the workplace to be a little too micro managed and some managers had very particular ways in which they wanted things done which often tended to contradict with each other but for the most part it was a fun and enjoyable place to work. 

We worked Mon-Fri with the odd half day on a Sat or Sun which was double pay so I never minded been rostered for them and we also got a LAD (low activity day) once a month which was a day off as we worked 20 mins extra each day which over the course of a month would amount to a paid day off which was a great plus.

My expertise in palliative care included working in a day hospice managed and created by a co worker in the 1990s was a brilliant opportunity for myself.This involved a multidisciplinary team approach standard of care as well as a holistic care.Which included reki,aromatherapy,psysiotherapy,diversional therapy.The duty of care was to improve mental/emotional health through catering to clients interests.Inaddition to  this families were encouraged to participate especially when clients created their life stories through art,writing  ,cooking and group development within the care setting.Inaddition to this both myself and my boss took varied doctor interns through the facility whilst in training.I attended various in-service training while working in the above capacity.
My Aged-care work was informative and very much written work assessment in the continuation of care based needs.

A typical day at the hospital was very busy while mixing with other departments, patients and medical professionals.
I was fortunate to learn new skills and knowledge while being under the banner of the hospital which is dedicated to helping the sick and less fortunate.
The management is always focused on moving forward for the patients while keeping centered on its' history.
Workplace culture is typical of a large hospital/organization.
The hardest part of the job at St. Vincent's was activating requests and needs between different departments.
The most enjoyable part of the job seeing a smile on a patient's face when you have gone the extra distance for them and sorted a difficult problem.

Each day was filled with prioritising between meeting the needs of the residents and maintaining management duties.  Days ran into weeks into months as seasons passed residents aged and brought change to the Village.  The hardest part of the job was seeing residents deteriorate and require higher care.   The most enjoyable part of the job was organising activities to ensure residents had a full life within the Village community if they chose to participate.  This role was a residential position from which I learned much from observing residents and hearing their personal stories.  Our aging community have a wealth of experiences to impart to the younger population.
