St John of God hospital is a fantastic company to work for, friendly staff and management we all work well in a team environment, we have a coordinator who directs task to workers e.g A theater has finished operating and are coming off the table then are directed to assist then finish with the cleaning preparing for the next operation. also to collect a patient and wheel them into the operating room.  we have multiple start and finish time as we work shift work. The most difficult task of the job is Rolling a patient from prone position on the operating table onto their back on their bed or the opposite from their bed onto the operating table and lifting and getting the positioning correct ready for the surgeon, then strapping the patient to the table.
The part I enjoy the most is talking to the patients getting to know them meeting people from all types of backgrounds and comforting them when they are nervous for their operation.

The new NUM of this ward favoured long term staff over newer staff & gave away all the shifts to his friends. 
The NUM who hired me initially was amazing & very fair  in shift allocations! 
Unfortunately she moved on & the replacement NUM was actually seen first hand playing favourites & then lied when no shifts were left for other staff that were hired specifically for ML Ward!
The other team members were nice & if it wasnt for lack of shifts?
I would have stayed! To go from 2-3 shifts per week, to none for 5+ weeks! Was unfair ...
Its sad as I initially worked there as Agency Staff & converted to SJOG staff & have worked there on & off for a few years!
But with this new num? He favoured his mates first & shifts ceased.
He even hired more staff , however couldn't even give all the team shifts??!

A regular routine every day, sometimes demanding of your time, which you need to juggle and keep your own work routine. A great challenge for my enjoyment at work.
Management are approachable and willing to listen
Work as a team with the nurses is advantageous, they in return are very grateful. The nurses are friendly and kind and very professional.
I don't find the job hard, I prefer the harder, busy times for the challenge.
Most enjoyable part of my job is the patient contact, serving them tea/ coffee and chatting to them, and assisting them to be comfortable, understanding the priority of their Wellbeing.

Working there it was always busy, but being able to get to know the patients made it all worth it. There was always time to say hello and how are you doing?

I learned that something as simple as remembering a patients name can make all the difference to their day and it was worth it every time.

Management was challenging but you were well supported and encouraged to better yourself through courses.

The hardest part of the job was when you could not help a patient because of terminal illness.

I found that working within a team and was enjoyable and the work life balance was enforced. 

All in all it was a fanatastic workplace and I am glad that I had the oppourtunity to work there.

As a volunteer than, my typical day of work would be creating patient files, and walking patients to the correct units or wards in the hospital.

St. John of God - Mt. Lawley is a very friendly environment to work in. The staff are of great help to each other who aims to keep its Christian values. Management cares for the welfare of its staff at a professional level, and the workplace is very much multicultural.  

The hardest part of the job will be having a full on busy day with a difficult patient. And the most enjoyable part of the job is of course meeting new people and being able to be of help.  

The thing I've learned from St. John of God,  was that, whatever your job may be, do it well, as you are in a chain of productions that leads to saving lives.

A typical day at work is always busy and productive, but one can not take away what i learnt and the experiences gained such as the different tables needed for different surgeries, transfer of patient from the bed to the operating table and from the operating table to the bed after the surgery. Also the equipment used like portable X-Ray machine, II C Arm and monitor, Microscope etc.
The Management of st. John has been good. They treat there staffs well and with respect.
They also follow the work place culture strictly which is Hospitality, Compassion, Respect, Justice and Excellence.
The hardest part of the job is seeing patient passing away and the most enjoyable part of the job is meeting different people.

Worked as a CSSD technician; if you start here first then you can work anywhere! The first 3 months goes fast and everyone seems helpful at first, but the longer you stay the more you realise how discriminatory and manipulative the management is. 

Your coworkers dont actually want to help you + are obvious they are only there for the salary and not enjoying what they do.

Gossip is prevalent.

You are always guilted when you take leave by your coworkers and manager.

If you want to work in the CSSD department, I wish you the best of luck -- you will need it.

Good place to work in, very flexible with shifts and family orientated.
Good teaching hospital. Shifts varied on a day to day basis. 
I worked in the peri operative area, it was always busy, got to know the staff, but not much of the management, although they took care of the staff. Good culture working together with diverse cultures.
The hardest part was there is not enough staff due to the amount of cases on a daily basis.
Most enjoyable part was forming friendships where everyone is treated equally as part of a team, there was no segregation between the medical teams, all worked together for one goal, that was patient recovery and wellness.

From my limited opportunity here a typical day was looking after patients and caring for them, doing the things that they couldn't. I learned many things about anatomy but just how a hospital runs was the main part. The management was very good, it was very organized and i can;t recall any mistakes happening. My co-workers were very friendly and knowledgeable and taught me a lot in  a limited time slot. There weren't many hard parts of the job as i wasn't fussed about things to do with the body that others might find disgusting. Just the fascination of what goes on "behind the scenes" at a hospital that patients and family members don't normally see.

Co-workers were excellent to work with and could work alone or in a team.
Learned importantant values about life, cultures and work ethics.
Management were supportive and available.
Hardest part of my jobs were looking after teminally ill patients.
The most enjoyable part of the job was interacting with staff and patients in a friendly environment and knowing that I had made a difference in their well being and quality care while at St John of God Geelong.
