Job gets easier, if you’re competent and have common sense. The problem lies in management, whoever trained most of them should find another job that suits their talents because this is not it. 

Now the job may sound easy, but with the low employee retention rate, there is such a high work load to get through that sometimes employees don’t take their 10s and work through lunch and although not encouraged to do so by managers, it feels like that’s what they want you to do because they’re not going to hire more employees to cover you or even do your job. 

They treat everyone as expendable and although true everyone is replaceable they seem to forget they need to retrain these new employees and they have no empathy towards anyone. Overworking all their employees until they feel like their backs are going to give in. 




Decent pay, extremely hard work. Don’t expect to be compensated for any extra work. Good pay, but no matter what ‘rank’ you are, I.e manager, checkout operator, truck driver, supervisor, you are all getting the same pay rate. The quality of your time at work depends on your team. As much as it is stressful, I appreciate spudshed for the opportunity and experiences that it’s given me. I do recommend especially for a first time job - many life skills and lessons have been learned in my time here. 

I got this job by walking in the day they opened telling them they need to hire me as they needed the staff, this job was casual paid not optional pay was good work was hard and physical, the fresh produce manager was the wrong person to have in the public eye as he would sware and abuse staff resulting in alot of staff quitting it got worse when he noticed it didnt effects me. I enjoyed late shifts and being able  to pick the days you wanted to work. Being busy especially in  check out other staff from other departments should have been tort how to operate till as there wasn't  enough staff on tills but yet we were all under each others feet in the other departments

Full of promises. Promise you hours but you never get. Cultral mangement who look after there own people.
If ya complain about hygeine standards or other people not doing a job properly your hours are cut the following week.
Would recommend not to work for this company as you are treated like a number not a person. People who work there only do it as its a job. But actually whinge they hate it. Everyones watching each other and will back stab you to management to play favourites to get more hours.
Standard of fresh stock that comes in is mouldy.
Hygeine standards at back very dirty.

If I could give this workplace 0, I would. 
There is one nice Supervisor who is the best whilst working there and it made it easy to complete my shifts.
I would never recommend working there, Shifts that are made up by the roster manager are unfair each week as she plays by favourites. 
Management do not care about their staff at all, nor does the owner.

It is a very cultural place to work in, there is no Racial Discrimination in any of their stores. 
Wages for adults: $24.30, they only hire as Casual and it is hard to climb the ladder because as i said they play favourites, no matter the time you've worked for and how good you are in your position.

I have been hired as a casual doing the overnight position and supervisor position for the till/checkout area I was the first ever male supervisor to be in the Bentley Spudshed working in that area. I developed my supervisory skills and gained experience there as it was my first time taking on the supervisor position I enjoyed working for Spudshed great company great initiative colleagues great customers and good responsibilities that put you aline with your given tasks and duties.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Well you get hardly any discount (seniors get more than you will). You are constantly abused by customers for the produce quality (or lack of) and you wont get noticed for your hard work and dedication to the company.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Management reward the wrong kinds of staff. The hard working ones usually go unnoticed.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very toxic and at times sexist. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Rude customers seem to shop here. I would avoid working here.

Currently working here but so far I've noticed no one seems to be happy with the job. Most people are over worked, underpaid despite getting 33.60 an hour there is no public holiday rate or penalty rates for night shift, no Saturday rate just sundays. Day shift gets the best side of the pay with no penalty rates but night shift workers lose out on a few hundred a fortnight (on minimum wage with penalty rates) than getting that few dollars an extra an hour with no penalty rates.

That is just one of the very few concerns about this job, the rest of the reviews basically cover everything else

Owning the Spud Shed was interesting and I learnt many skills.buying produce,pricing and organising staff.
I learnt people skills and dealing with money and suppliers.
I felt at times having friendships with employees very challenging and one of the hardest roles.The bussiness was seven day a week.the drawing of boundaries the hardest part of the job.along with dealing with money issues,theft etc
